It's all a matter of paying attention, being awake in the present moment, and not expecting a huge payoff. The magic in this world seems to work in whispers and small kindnesses.
— Charles de Lint
Also like the following from Le Petit Prince / Little Prince
“On ne voit clairement qu’avec le cœur. L’essentiel est invisible aux yeux” (It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye).
It’s actually a quote from another 19th century American author, Christian Nestell Bovee. The quote is taken from his Thoughts, Feelings, & Fancies (1857).
Yeah each generation has to rediscover some truths for themselves, we all ignore or kick a lot of old ideas/truths to the curb.
Necessary most of the time but there are some that are ageless and will still apply 10K years from now ;?)
My dad has a saying - youth calls to youth - I think it means whatever is said hardly matters until someone says it that you pay attention too. He rarely explains his cryptic sayings lol just says stuff nods, & goes back to doing stuff.. 🫤
Lol sounds like a wise man indeed ;?)
Oft times all the explanations are just fingers pointing at the Moon", (paraphrasing some Zen saying) "Don't look at the finger or you miss the the Moon" ;?)
And the self absorbed view as a weakness to be preyed upon, ridiculed and mocked. So not in this moment for those people who attempt to be more by the misery of others.
Good thing to follow (& get Likes) but sadly it wasn't Mark Twain who wrote this but (most likely) Christian Nestell Bovee some while before Samuel Clemens became a writer.
Haven't used Google since 2009 - prefer DuckDuckGo/others.
Its not abt searching, but being able to smell a rat at the right time so that you want to verify. Sometimes the 'poster' made a genuine mistake (not checking), sometimes its ill intentioned. Either way there are usually clues to be found.
Yes, “smell a rat,” especially if you’ve actually read Twain. I think most people just innocently propagate this nonsense, but it’s important to correct it. Thanks.
I know you're right but my suspicious mind still wants to believe it's some diabolical plot by anarchists and the enemies of Western Civilization attempting to destroy us from within ;?D
Ignore them. People who are willfully ignorant to evil don't deserve your attention, it won't change anything and will only make you feel worse. Help those affected by said evil.
America was once the country of fighters. People who worked through hell to build this proud country. Now it's the country of whiners with their hands out. Um no. My ancestors faced hell the last few generations can't begin to imagine WITHOUT drugs or alcohol or handouts. Life is hard. Buy a helmet
I do. I'm making a point. This be kind to everyone is flat BS. If you walk around being a doormat, people will treat you like a doormat. I have compassion. I also know America has turned into the country of professional victims. People who will milk you for everything they can. Nope.
Sad, sad state of affairs 😔 But let me be a devil's advocate for a moment (not that I would ever be irl): would you help a Trump voter in need who realised their error, repented and asked for forgiveness? Why/why not?
Sorry but this is another NON-QUOTE by M.T. aka Samuel Clemens smh.
NOT your fault, this stuff spreads like wildfire. Misquoting/making shit up to attribute to everyone from Mark Twain to Lao Tzu is a fucking cottage industry and I don't get it cuz GOOGLE!
This ones by Christian Nestell Bovee 1857.
But yeah absolutely be kind... except to the arseholes who I think do this shite on purpose in an effort to slowly whittle away at the foundations of a classic education, leading directly to the collapse of the entirety of Western Civilization (making it likely China and the Russians, in cahoots ;?)
It's just one that's been circulated a LOT recently, someone's just cranking them out of some "Heartfelt Quote" store accidentally OR purposely misattributing the author, lol, and then they just spread like wildfire.
False attribution is one of my 700 pet peeves, especially if it involves Mark Twain who never wrote insipid guff like this one. I've read a lot of his work and can spot a fake quote in 7/10ths of a second.
Lol agreed, yeah it's amazing how many touchy, feely motivational quotes are being attributed to Mr. Clemens whom I'm sure would be spinning in his grave if he knew ;?D
It's like most of these folks never actually READ his works...🤯
He also famously said, "People who talk to themselves play with themselves." Not sure what was going on with him when he wrote that one. And then this quote pairs nicely with the first.
"I love to hear myself talk, because I get so much instruction and moral upheaval out of it."

It gives us a warm feeling... like being at Bluesky, where trolls don't take over.
Ahhh, nice over here eh?

Too many would ask "what's in it for me?" before they would.
Actions can be singular while virtue can be a planned (potentially false) facade.

Thanks for the reminder.
At least for first few conversations 😅
