Once upon a time, they could lure names like Mourhino and Conte with the prospect of working with Kane, Dele, and prime Son. We don't have the personnel to attract a big name.

So we go after mid-table success stories, but the fan base has made the job toxic so none of them want it... 1/2

We need a manager with success in a lower league interested in seeing if he can replicate it in the Prem. He needs to be willing to build a new generation of great players, and ignore the toxicity of the fan base, with patience from above.

I was a very late "Ange in" holdout, and I just don't know how we can go into next season with him as manager. There may not be a perfect option out there, but the results have been so bad this year that we just need to make a change

As @profspur.bsky.social has argued repeatedly, nobody's excusing the league performance, but it's mitigated a TON by a thin squad decimated by injuries that was ill-equipped to handle multiple competitions. And we're still within spitting distance of a Europa League cup title.

I totally get that and don’t think it would be a disaster or anything if they do keep him, but I just worry that the squad will never be right (or right enough) for everything to click over a full season

I agree with this view. I love Ange, I want him to stay, but if the entire project breaks down when both first choice CBs aren’t available for selection then how can the project be sustainable?

The issue though is that it's not just missing the 2 first-choice CBs. It's missing the 2 first-choice CBs and then playing 65% of your games with at least one of the 2 second-choice CBs not being a CB at all.

I'm not super-versed in managers, but Thomas Frank would be top of my list. Pragmatic, can take what you give him and make it work so he won't need a squad overhaul. An open question if he'd take the Spurs job.

Honestly, mighty be a better fit for what the club wants right now. But I'd take Ange for another season any day. See how it goes. I'm intrigued and encouraged by his adaptations. Frank unlikely to be off to another job in the meantime.

It's funny, I had thought Frank had been on the list two years ago and the club passed on him for Ange but I can't find any record of that. They did have Silva on the list then, apparently, which is a bummer

Yeah I’d agree, and like him as a person which is a plus. I only worry if Ange stays is we have a similar hot start and then fall away for the third season running. But then, I suppose that would be justification to then change.

That's what I mean about being intrigued by the adaptations. He acknowledged going too hard into this season. We're seeing tactical changes for the better at the latter end. A manager learning and adapting is a good sign, imo.
