Disturbingly the Coalition is still dominated by the QLD LNP, the redneck lunar right of the conservative movement - and a legacy political movement committed to Joh Bjelke Petersen style politics
And yet their biggest losses were in Qld. Even losing their leader, despite both being from there ! That old Qld reactionary legacy may be fading fast with demographic and generational changes.
I cant wait to see what the term will be. Libs will be focused on city seats though so they will try and keep the Nationals in the background. Not sure how many of them will want to stay there for too long.
…and will the Nats use their increased power in the Coalition to insist on dumping Nuclear Power Generation because the electorate didn’t want it, in favor of building 7 new Coal Fired Power Stations because that’s never been tested in a Federal election. Matt Canavan could be the new Ted O’Brien.
They won't split in Qld as Crisafulli is going to move voting back to optional preferential voting. This was why they joined in the first place after Beattie introduced it to combat ON.

That’s a surprise…I remember pre-merger the Libs almost getting wiped out in Qld, left with a couple of Brisbane seats.
I definitely remember the senior Coalition member always being a Nat…
Ah - surprising! I just deleted an assertion to the contrary. Of course there’s nothing to keep them sitting with the Libs if pastures are greener with the Nats… is there?
if the Nats are serious they will leave the coalition.... they'd then be free to hover up seats like Wannon and Farrer from the Libs next time out and create a genuine regional voting block. However i'm not holding my breath
Which will matter, because now Bridget McK is saying the Nats want to retain the nuclear power policy. If that holds sway in the Coalition, they are really in trouble
The idea of a coalition is a slap in face for Australian voters, since so many people just keep voting for the same party.
The coalition should never have been legal, and your suggestion seems perfectly fair to me.
Oh, please NO🤯 that would be like having a Scotty back again. Talks the same blathering shit, and his aggressive jutted jaw and know all attitude is unbearable.
Exactly. Let him in. It’ll be great craic altogether. Oh how we will laugh and have the perfect excuse to open more red wine during some 7.30 and Q&A episodes.
The QLD LNP is the dominant faction with Teddels being the most recognisable. They will fail to attribute blame to the Nuclear policy and the fossil fuel lobby trust Ted will do what they want.
They do. The overall leader will be a Lib, and National will deputy. Each party also has their own deputy. The front bench is proportional to number of seats won, I think.
That's been my emerging thesis over the last few months. The “Coalition” is a fractured, regionalised set of four factions, (and factions with those factions!) with little in common and little national appeal. It's brand death.
Is there any historic breakdown of which QLD LNP seats used to be contested/won by which party? I'd be curious how many traditional nationals versus traditional libs remain
They are all minor parties of course the LNP all caucus with different parties. The libs are ahead but only just. There was never ever two parties always just Labor against a coalition of minor parties
So on LNP logic the teals are 'a Party', a Teal/Green coalition nowbecomes the other 2pp major. Media should adjust coverage accordingly. 2pp was a dodgy deal in 1990 to avoid constitutional count regime by alp/lnp collapse.
A scam by any other name is now exposed...
Not entirely true. The 2pp-propaganda has a heavy toll on our voting culture. It was/is an ALP/LNP vehicle to isolate swing voter numbers between them, and reduce 'policy work' by using the lazy distraction line "A vote for [x] is a vote for [y].. (translated: Don't look at our lack of policy)
And therefore, the nats/Greens are now 'major party' in the 2pp preferencing sham.
All media coverage should exclude libs from that 'adjustment' framework now, once counting/ senate results are complete. Whomever becomes the new major, this must be done, or 2pp will exposed as the propaganda it is
Libs are becoming irrelevant. How does the right wing city person empathise with the rural person who is impacted by floods and drought?
Coalition denies climate science, but more than half the party is affected by it.
Makes no sense…
Won’t it be a vicious no-holds-barred shit fight in the LNP opposition room to negotiate how many shadow ministries each group is entitled to?
There will be some back stabbing, treachery, duplicitous deals. Entrails, blood and guts will be hanging off the ceiling. Hope the cleaners are alerted.
it is time for the Liberals still remaining in the Liberal Party to split and start anew. Recruit Allegra Spender, Dai Lee and maybe some of the other Teals and Independents and start a new socially progressive party with a proper plan for fiscal and taxation reform.
Leave the Luddits behind.

I’ll adjust my expectations accordingly.

Libs won’t pick a woman. Angus has lost their faith. I think Hastie, O’Brien, Hawke are the main contenders.

Getting more complicated now.
