“The vice presidency comes with plenty of indignities, but probably none greater than the one Kamala Harris will endure on Monday when she presides over the certification of her defeat,” our chief White House correspondent writes.

She's a true American and will abide by the constitution. Why are you projecting these feelings onto her? She has given no indication that she's thinks or feels this way. She is a PATRIOT.
Why awkward? She upholds the constitution. Why are you so damn smug? Why aren’t you pointing out that the national guard did not have to be on alert today and that the capitol police don’t fear for their lives?
It’s the exact opposite! She is exemplifying what makes America great! The peaceful transfer of power. We can only hope Republicans will once again appreciate this critical act.
It’s not an episode of Real Housewives you assholes. She’s a professional person and a former prosecutor. She can handle her shit with ten times more grace and fortitude than any Republican ever could.
She should do everything T wanted Pence to do. Republicans want to obstruct everything and it clearly works in winning elections so it’s time for Dems to start obstructing everything.
Had the Times and other media done their job over the last four years instead of obsessing over Trumps every fart, he would be facing jail now and Harris would be presiding over her own certification as our first Woman President.
I doubt if she’ll feel indignity - perhaps sadness and frustration - certainly a degree of regret, but I have no doubt that she will dwell on any of those
Plenty of unanswered questions here. If true, as reported, that Biden was in cognitive decline early in his Presidency, then why didn’t the second in command, the VP, sound the alarm? Did she know? A heartbeat away from the Presidency and not a word? Duty to inform?
The senate democratic leader Chuck Schumer just gave an interview. He said the Dems lost the house, senate and the White House because voters didn't realize how much they had done for them.
In fact, they lost because voters realized the Dems serve donors.
Harris's embrace of donors soured the base
What an odd take. She's an adult doing her Constitutionally mandated job. The idea that it's an "indignity" seems to be normalizing and adopting the narcissistic view of autocrats.
She’s the one who believes in and respects the constitution. Why would you call that an indignity? The indignity happened 4 years ago. Talk about that…
I'd say it is a lot less awkward for her than it is for you, having to come to terms with the reality starting in two weeks. She didn't choose that, you did.
@nytimes.com You are embarrassing yourself. She'll do her job with dignity and grace. She's got more class in her baby finger than all of MAGA combined.
I'm sure she'll get it one of these years. She's the most qualified candidate in a long time. The only person I'm aware of who served in all 3 branches of government? She's not going away any time soon.
Somehow doing what she swore to do when entering office is now an awkward task. It's statements like these that truly make me feel that the post truth faction has won.
Awkward? Triumphant that -- unlike the last time -- it will not be accompanied by a mob summoned by her President. Whatever temporal riches are accumulated by Trump, history will not treat him kindly.
Can we respect Kamala Harris enough to assign her at least SOME responsibility for Trump’s victory instead of treating her as another passive observer to whom the Trump era just happens?
It's sad that Americans read the NYT to get accurate news and instead get opinions that skew the truth. It's confusing and difficult to discern. Recall NYT headlines in the fall that made her sound difficult when her staff actually said she was detailed. Cancel these collaborators if you can.
What a stupid title… It’s offensive to infer that she or any elected official wouldn’t fully embrace their constitutional responsibility. Please do real reporting and stop the stupid. What aren’t you reporting that you should be? Fiction and projection aren’t becoming to the NYT. Will not read it!
I was listening to the ny times Jeremy Peters on cnn talk shit about the Democrats again. He always will be a wet rag of a journalist.
The election 🗳️ was sabotaged by weirdo’s like him working at the times.
Kamala Harris will perform this duty with grace and dignity, regardless of how she feels about the outcome of the election, because she respects our constitution and the enduring tradition of the peaceful transfer of power.
What she may personally feel today is anyone's guess, but she will certify as befits her position: with a sense of duty, honor, and commitment to democracy and the American people. Too bad the person she is certifying lacks these and most other qualities.
According to the author, this made-up "indignity" is reserved exclusively for Harris. Cancel your subscriptions, folks. Stop keeping these libel sewers afloat.
she has chosen the right side of the history. no conspiracy theories no threats about her defeat. the other guy wil be remembered as a shameless, racist, liar who spoiled the country.
Kamala may have her personal thoughts about the certification but what she will do is fulfill her constitutional duty. That’s having honor and integrity, unlike the guy that’s about to enter the presidency. Maybe write about that NYT.
But unlike the Republicans she has integrity and will do her constitutional duty without hesitation because she has integrity, honor, ethics & morals all of which the Republicans are lacking
A better headline would be she believes in upholding democratic norms and institutions even after losing the election and y’know DOING HER JOB. Sheesh @nytimes.com

Fixed it for you.
“A humiliated shamed Comma-La must certify her own loss, so cringe”
The indignity should rest with her pathetic, weak Party. But, sadly, it's business as usual.

See, Republicans? It's not that hard. Take notes.

If everything is awkward, you are not professional.
