Not sure it is. A recent study found that experts couldn't tell any difference in sound quality between a vintage strad and a modern, machined violin. With that in mind, £11m for a bit of wood feels like the same thing as a banana taped to a wall.
It's literally older than the USA, made by an artisan who basically invented the instrument as it is today
As a working instrument no, as a piece of history yeah
I'm from the UK mate. We have public toilets that are literally older than the USA. As a historical artifact I get it but these instruments tend to be bought to be played which is as absurd as a banana taped to a wall.
This price will help justify my next reverb purchase. I’d love to hear it in the room. Loved the red violin as kid. I bet it’s amazing to hold. There’s something about instruments where you feel a connection to the past
I got to hold a Stradivarius violin when I used to go to a formerly wealthy part of Montgomery County, PA. It was made by one of his students but signed. It was cracked, long story. I tried like hell to buy it, wouldn't budge. I did leave w a gorgeous 1800's Navajo rug. I sold it. Unbelievable items
waste of money. so much can b done to help the starving, animals, education etc . this is why the world is in this state becuz ppl who spend this kind of money on this r pure self egotist . self absorbed, live in greed.
Come to Cremona, Italy, where for 10 euros you can listen to daily auditions of the original Stradivarius, preserved in the vault of the Violin Museum, and played weekly to keep them in perfect condition https://museodelviolino.org/it/

And no they don't, they usually bought by collectors those some musicians do like playing old instruments
Personally I would like to get my hands on an old late 30s L5 Which is 10k plus
Why do you keep going on about the banana picture?
Art is art as value is subjective
Know that we have always been down, down
If I ever didn't thank you, you
Then just let me do it now
