Our monkey brains are not equiped for the amount of information we are being fed instantly from every algo on the planet. The algo was told to drive engagement, and fear drives engagement, so all we hear about, all day, is how we are all going to be kidnapped/raped/murdered by immigrants.
Its because we see crimes that are committed across the country on socisl media, &the media makes a big deal out of it. Especially the splashy ones. Now we used to have a news cycle an hour long. we have all these social media sites with channels monetizing crime on video, in addition to 24 hr news.
I’m guessing it would still correlate somewhat; but I’d prefer to see just car theft and murder
Those tend to be far more useful; as they are less prone to effects of reporting and policing (people tend to notice/report cars missing and bodies showing up)
The right wing constantly pumps out scare stories for half the population and a bunch of the rest listen to nothing but true crime podcasts and or copaganda shows. Not surprising
The crime is more in your face……mass robberies prompting stores to lock up everyday items, inconvenience for shoppers and a reminder every time you need an everyday item….tagging metro and cars….in your face crimes
Side effect of social media. Crime is everywhere because they sit on their phones for 6+ hours a day watching videos of crimes being committed whether they happened recently or not.
Since last November I have started coming to terms with how catastrophically stupid the median American voter is. Trump won because he figured that out a long time ago.
Because of FOX News and Sinclair media. Go to ANY Sinclair media site, they are constantly running "CRIME" stories as their main headline because it helps to control the narrative. Doesn't matter if that CRIME is happening 1000 miles away in another state, they control hundreds of news stations
If it was the crime bill you’d expect to see major shifts from other emergent factors rather than the steady downward march and you’d see a disproportionate effect in communities disproportionately impacted.
My money would be on reduced lead exposure and increased awareness of head injuries.
i feel like it was probably in the areas with the most crime leading to those numbers being so high, sure some people were getting richer, but not everyone and not equally.

(Note the caveat on FBI statistics starting in 2021)
