We're excited that verification badges have made it easier to quickly recognize authentic accounts, especially in moments of breaking news.
Now, we're expanding our roll-out. Notable and authentic accounts can apply for verification or to become a Trusted Verifier via the form linked in our blog.

Id imagine that a university could make a process to let anyone with a .edu URL use a BSky account, and then use verification for faculty or notable students and graduates.
If it helps Bluesky, then it helps us, the American people.
In that vein, I would also like to nominate for verification --

Why use google ):
Their are some really good web based free forms too so using google is just annoying and frustrating
What I want is the blue pen button on every screen so I don't have to back out of a screen to make a post then go back to where I was.

However, I am happy with it. It makes me feel more comfortable about who is providing information.

So sad to see BS turning into very uncool. Classist account system, "notable" accs bullshit (feat. google bullshit)
Fediverse is getting more and more interesting
Also, I'm probably not "notable" and I won't use my real name (for now, anyway).
So, goodbye badges...
FUCK GOOGLE
This is just recreating one of the most broken and toxic parts of Twitter.
Without trustworthy verification, you get 10 million fake Elon accounts asking for bank logins from your grandma
adding a little badge and limiting to a subjective and arbitrary measure of being "noteworthy" is bullshit.
There's simply no drawbacks to having in-app verification badges.
It's literally what Twitter so influential despite not being in the top 10 most popular social media apps
The point is harm mitigation, not flawless and perfect verification of everyone
You only hurting smaller accounts like mine.
You are a POS just like any other.
