My kid is graduating from HS & headed to college to study math.
The last university on earth I wanted to pay for him to attend is Columbia University.
It's not a place for serious students: it's an unserious playground for child-activists who haven't yet ever earned rent.
There are countries that are no longer dictatorships because of students protesting. In some places like China, they died trying. They're parents I'm sure disapproved of them, preferring to sit on their asses and do sweet FA.
100%.
I was an undergrad the night of Tianenmen. Took a walk and watched campus leftists ignite a fire at a BofA to protest Apartheid, the cause of the day. The contrast stuck: US college kids lighting symbolic fires while Chinese kids were crushed by tanks. Well aware of the history.
Oooh... "Top 10"!?
LOL... so was its law school: "Give us passing grades. No final exams. We're traumatized, but so-o-o serious!"
So very seriously academically unserious & overrated.
All this for only $100K/year.
Presently, not a place for serious students - it's a playground for child-activists.
I can see why someone who gets contradictory evidence, immediately childishly mocks it and repeats the same tedious shit that just got contradicted would have a problem with education.
What nobody on your thread seems to understand is that not all protests are created equally. There was a huge protest by white people what little Ruby Bridges first went to an integrated school. Is that the same thing as the protests at Selma? One is disgusting and harassment and what is not
This will get hardly any replies because that Israel commits genocide crowd that doesn’t even know that the guy that was arrested passed out Hamas charters is way more active.
This is step #433 on the way back from the 20th century to the 17th, and #434 will be "only property-holders worth at least [value of a horse] should have the right to vote," so if you think you're aghast now.....
Your brain is a dead armadillo if you think that one of the best educational institutions in the world is a “playground”. You need to be un brainwashed. What a disservice to your child smh.
An 18 year old shouldn't have to earn rent. That's kind of a problem. They should go to school to learn what they think and what they choose to stand by. Whether or not random folks like you agree. A person shouldn't come to the land of free speech and then be kicked out for using that right.
One can hold both opinions: that the Trump administration's actions are horrifying, and that Columbia's reputation has taken a massive hit. Academic-disrupting protests either reflect campus-wide views, or are dictated by the minority.
Laughable academic environment for a serious student.
Absolutely fair, but this is an issue for Columbia to solve. Trump threatening institutions he doesn’t agree with is not an option; first DEI now this… next Nazis or women’s rights. Saying this as an American who lives in Israel. This is crazy and must stop immediately!!!
You are right. So just because someone is against Trump doesn't mean that they don't have other shitty opinions. And I think if your response to, "People are being deported for their protests at a school" is to complain about the school? Then you have some of those shitty opinions.
Hey friend, you seem to be an intelligent person, so I’d like to ask how much time you’ve spent recently at Columbia University?
You seem to be fairly critical of mainstream media narratives, so if you’re forming opinions based on them I’m sure you’d agree that likely leaves you pretty misinformed.

This level of unsolicited vitriol for an institution is deeply weird. Please stop being so weird.
