My brother had it badly which really frightened my mum. My sister & l were taken for the vaccine the minute it was available.

Yes, & became a fine athlete but it took a while to recover. So glad I had the vaccine - the days before MMR so l did get mumps & rubella.

My daughter nearly died from chickenpox at 3 months old (both my toddlers had it at the same time which is how she got it) She’s now a very healthy 16 yr old but I’d make chicken pox vaccines compulsory in the UK if I could.

It's really shocking that it's not offered. The 'logic' is that there was a theory that regular exposure to chickenpox via kids getting it would protect older adults from shingles but it's unconscionable to expose kids to a disease that *might kill them* to protect *other people*.

Oh yes. We did all encourage people too bring their kids round if someone had chicken pox as it was deemed better and, in fact preferable, for them to have it.

I had measles, chickenpox and whooping cough (remember that one), thankfully no lasting effects from them aside from still have some scars left by the chickenpox 😒

I had it in either 65 or 66, and it was awful. I later knew my parents were really scared. The vaccine arrived not long after where we lived. Also had mumps, rubella and chickenpox. Get vaccinated!

I was born 3 yrs earlier and had it aged around 6. Dad trekked miles to find a working public phone to call the doctor as I was so ill. I can still remember a darkened lounge and lying on the sofa. I blame my poor eyesight on the disease as I could see really well till then.

Thanks. Still I was luckier than many. I made sure my son had the MMR vaccine when it was time. Even though thanks to that now discredited doctor we had the worry of it causing autism hanging over us.
