Actually, there’s been some discussion about that. Title 28, Section 566 of the U.S. Code lays out the duties of the U.S. Marshals. Their primary duty is “to provide for the security and to obey, execute, and enforce all orders” of the federal courts.

Essentially, while the US marshals are part of the DOJ for administrative purposes, they are legally bound to obey court orders, even if those court orders are at odds with orders from the attorney general maybe especially when they’re at odds.

I've been reading some shit about contempt enforcement and though I don't think it's ever been used by the judiciary against the executive, in theory a federal court could appoint a receiver and order them to freeze or seize assets and property of people they hold in contempt.
