“No one was interested. They were like, ‘This is just RoboCop’ and we were like, ‘No, it's not at all. It's the anti-RoboCop,'” Goyer recalled. “It's about neurodivergence. It's about humanity.”” https://www.forbes.com/sites/timlammers/2025/05/22/murderbot-ep-david-s-goyer-on-alexander-skarsgrd-and-staying-true-to-martha-wells-books/

They really missed a chance to cast a trans actor here.
Ever.
Also, Skarsgård absolutely *nailed* the performance, like, that's a guy who read the script and understood the assignment completely.
Maybe I'm misremembering.
arguably a human male works best here for building/subverting expectations
casting a trans person would be basically like literally screaming *I am not what you all expect me to be*, on the nose / on the verge of caricature
but *we* expect a security figure to look dangerous, and "unsettling" works even better than brutish
hilarious when sec unit is the most unsettled one in the room
2. Yes, it would have been great to have a nonbinary actor in this role
And STILL jumped at THAT part.
They are doing an excellent job.
one is a human fighting to recover his humanity.
the other is a robot fighting to not become human.
Thank you for all of this!
Reading about the execs not being able to distinguish this story from Robocop just further cements my conviction that most people at the highest levels of power in any organization are complete fucking morons
