I'm generally the hopeful person but this week, increasingly, I'm feeling America might be cooked for a long time. Maybe the feeling will pass but...yeah not looking good.

There's a lot of that going around. We're all already exhausted by the corruption & evil in this administration. And it's only been 120 days! This is gonna be the worse 4 years in America since the Civil War.
Everyone is thinking that. The GOP is actually taking measures that will shorten lifespans - AKA will make you DIE EARLIER. and yet nobody seems to want to 'raise their game' to make the bad guys scared. They need to get scared of you.
GOP ok w/ hundreds of thousands ppl losing jobs, millions of ppl losing healthcare, and so many of our institutions being decimated or closed. Then when Dems get back into power and try to return so many programs & ppl they will use it as ammo to fight govt spending and budget increases. 1/x
This is their plan to sabotage the Dem future. Election ads will all attack Dems pledging to bring back those things lost and the costs and it will play to small minded voters. Project 2025 bold in its audacity, it's maliciousness, and it's manipulation of the future. Not sure how we right this ship
So the Dems need to push hard for Roosevelt style tax policies: tax the most wealthy between 90% - 100%. This will both rally people against the culprits of the Trump policies, while also fund the reestablishment of public services for the middle and lower classes.
that will bring out the private militias, crater charitable giving, and rich will shutter their businesses for short term. Rich can miss a paycheck or two but anyone else loses their income and their world starts cratering. it's how wealthy dealt with labor in the teens-20s-30s.
It seems like ALL of the politicians, Supreme Court, media, corporations, religious nut jobs are in the same side against normal people. We can’t even find a voice
Here's why we're cooked. In certain countries in which fascists take over there's a highly educated population who endure while working to overthrow their suppressors. Here the GOP have been working a 50 year plan to dumb down the US public. We're too collectively stupid to want change
Brooklyn, one day I'll send you a video that woke me up real quick. In the meantime, it sounds by reading your post that you are very intelligent. You are right imo about their 50 yr plan. It's also in that video btw. I don't want to sound horrible but honestly Maga mostly are not only dumb, they..
are illiterate and Trump's appointees might speak big words but you and I can plainly see that they are dumb too. So, we aren't going to let of dumbasses take our country now are we?? Chin up, stock up, and keep your ears to the ground - WE are taking it back! We are taking EVERYTHING back!!
Yup. Appears Donald is going full dictator per Heritage Foundation plan & help of GOP. Don't believe Donald has the skill to have designed Project 25 & implemented it by himself.
This is the week it got to me, too. Knowing millions will never understand what’s being perpetrated upon us, and the infrastructure the GOP built to broadcast thousands of lies that are pushed at the US public day after day will slowly crush us all. I don’t see a path to combating it and winning
Fuck them. They're to god damn dumb to beat progress. They don't have the stamina. They will wear down. It'll suck till then. But give them nothing and always remind them of their massive failures.
I’m trying to get Dems out to vote in our state primary by knocking on doors. My state house district has the 3rd lowest turnout in the state. Some people aren’t aware of the candidates or that there is a primary going on now. I wrote post it notes with location, time of the election.
Yeah, last night the shit just got really REAL. It still blows my mind that so many people just walk around like things are normal. What will it take? Literally what the fuck will it take???
I agree, these are days when I wished I drank, instead I’ll just make pasta, the 3rd time this week, it’s comforting to me for at least a half hour…we can’t give hope in thinking a dozen spineless republicans will step up, and the nightmare would disappear imagine that’s all it would take
The main thing that keeps me going is knowing I have it so much better than most people so I need to keep stepping up. I have found a lot of ways of doing so which helps, but also meeting so many fabulous resisters! Who knew at 67 you could make a whole slew of new cool friends? 👊🏼 🔥 ☮️ ❤️
You cannot pour from an empty cup. It is ok to step away and find the things that bring you joy. But never give up hope. Light pierces darkness. There are prayer warriors doing their part.
Waj, same. My latest thread is so doomer I think I gained 5 goth points.
I actually took a break the other night to watch cathartic revolution in handmaid's tale. I would have rewatched Andor again but it's too sunny for my current mood.
The fact that AI video has gotten this good (see Veo 3) and we’re less than six months into Trump‘s second term gives me very little hope for the future of our country. 2024, as I say often, was our last chance and we biffed it.
I have friends and family in the U.S. but I'm never crossing the border again. So far, I've been able to not buy U.S. produce or products. I won't support a people or system that is so ignorant and cruel. So yeah, in my eyes, your country is cooked for a long time.
I’m just stunned the GOP is just sitting there letting it all happen. Many of them know this is really bad for our country. We’ve lost allies, trading partners, soft power, great minds, research, tourism, our standing in the world. For WHAT?
Yeah, I don't talk to my old friends anymore. They literally threatened civil war before the election - directly to my fucking face !!! Thought it was Funny
I am in a dark place bcuz of all this
I cannot believe ALL Republicans are so cowardly
Do they truly believe after our entire government is destroyed there will be a place for them?
It's fucking done. I know I likely won't survive. I also know there's not a fucking thing I can do about any of it. The evil greatly outnumber the decent. So I'm going to be like Bill & Frank in TLOU: be as happy as I can, despite the apocalypse, for whatever time I have left.
I've been thinking about this a lot lately. They couldn't do anything about the apocalypse. Their lives were permanently upended, their choices severely limited. But they lived within those confines and thrived as much as possible under the circumstances. I am trying to do the same.
Hannah Arendt was the first theorist, who noted how totalitarian regimes got into your head, between people, into the home, everywhere. Loneliness is a symptom of these regimes. Sounds like Trump and MAGA.
I have been feeling the same. An effective opposition party would be necessary. And still, Americans don’t seem motivated to respond. This will be less “stopping” and more possibly rebuilding what will be lost. But we will never fully recover.
The damage in many cases is permanent. But that doesn’t mean we can’t fix what’s broken, or re-earn the world‘s trust, once the disease is gone. A Nation has many embodiments and they are its people.
Right? It’s been 4-5 months of resistance and people want to wave white flags. It’s not like we have a choice other than to keep pushing. Lots of bad stuff but also some good signs this week. They depend on us to give up, it plays right into their goals
Because they/we can't grasp that other Americans can be this evil. Americans are more than happy to demonize other countries and their governments, but not enough of us can see into the void and understand that the Republicans have been trying to bring fascism to America since before Lindbergh.
This is the era of greed and grift. We are the richest nation in the world, but somehow it’s not enough and never will be for the oligarchs. I resist by staying true to my values. They can’t take that from me, at least.
🫂I'm so sorry that you're feeling this way. That's a horrible feeling.
To me, I see Americans waking up from a collective fog to realize how much democracy means to each of us. Millions of us are in this fight now -- and that makes all the difference.
I have zero hope. He isn’t leaving, he never was. 2026 election will be no different than any other dictatorial regime; performative at best. And, the amount of disenfranchisement of voters will set new records.
As a Canadian, watching the meth lab in the downstairs apartment, I’m beyond feeling any hope for peace and stability for a long time. I’m banking on our new PM to steady the course up here.
It’s so bizarre. I’m 64. I’ve never experienced this level of fucked up til now. The shit we used to complain about??? Jesus, that’s amateur hour now. Different level of crazy and worry now
I can't believe the methheads took over the country. The sober Americans are being held hostage in this downstairs apartment while they pillage and set fire to it. I'm so sorry we turned into this. We are also banking that other countries help.
I had a strong similar feeling from last Friday, and it's not fading.
That there's not enough resilience in the society and government to pull through, that the rot runs too deep, and that this is going to be a very very tough time.
Complacency is not an option.
I hope, but...
I wish it's only been since November for me. I've felt it since just before he (don't remember the date) told his "base" that they didn't even need to worry about voting.
At that point, everything else I felt between elections, felt like they were being actualized.
I was worried a month out, but hopeful, and thought we had a better chance what with the Harris rally turn outs. And when the "results" came in I was almost nauseous, or was, and felt kicked in the stomach and mentally hungover for more than a few months. Still am.
100% with you. Like every damn day that passes. And now with this bs bill with so much of it that destroys so much more. The project 2025 just got a big kick if it gets completed by senate.
The next few years will be tough, but the icing on the cake will be how Trump’s embedded goons sabotage our government for decades out of spite when they lose the next election. They’ll slash and burn whatever they can to try and cripple any Democrat who wins the presidency.
I know how you feel. I had high hopes, even though slim, that a group of Republicans would band together and refused to vote Yay last night. The outcome this morning proves they have lost their dignity & forgotten the sworn oath they promised to our democracy and us.They are traitors
We’ve gone through dark, crony-capital, racist, fascist, divided… times before. The death of the American dream to march towards a better system isnt dead… but its on life support for sure, and resuscitation isnt a given
I wouldn’t have guessed a decade ago republicans would go along with all of this. Rs have dreamed for years to have more racism and starving kids, but they have gone beyond even what my low standards assumed.
Yeah, I'm with ya on that feeling. Small "wins" seem entirely inconsequential, and no big wins are on the horizon to provide a bit of positivity. Gonna be a long 3+ years.
I was there in 2016! You do not recover from some decisions. To elect a carnival barker to the Oval Office, after 250 years of supremacy through meritocracy, was and is an insufferable and fatal blow midship. We were sinking from many reparable points, but the body politic preferred wounding itself!
It hit me a few days ago that, yeah, you’re cooked, and by consequence, us 🇨🇦 too. But, if we’re smart we can avoid the worst, while you’ll be in this mess for a generation.
So far my parents have lamented that they won't live to see the US in as good a shape as it was 6months ago, and my mother apologized for bringing me into the world. So yeah.
We need to hunker down, plan our resistance. Study the civil rights movement. We're not going to stop a lot of bad stuff. We're going to have to pick and choose what to fight for. By design they're throwing a lot at us. In my opinion, a very bad economy might be the only way out of this.
I totally agree. Not enough was done early on (before the first term election), then after he was elected, then during his first term, then after he was defeated, then in 2024.
Since congress will not take impeachment actions and SCOTUS bends the knee, trump will never leave office. The 2024 election was the last we will see. The nation is doomed
It’s been a rough week. I hate that they want us afraid and overwhelmed. We’ve gotta keep turning the despair into righteous anger. Remember: the power of the people is greater than the people in power.
Generational damange. What's the saying? Reputation rides in on a horse and leaves on a rocket. Something like that. Of course, there's the real and actual harm being done, and I shudder to think of what's to come.
Two generations time when these bastards are all long gone, America and the World will still be trying to repair what's been done in just a few months.
I think the goal should be to stay hating on Vance and miller and all the fucking ghouls so that Trump doesn't have anyone to pass this disgusting MAGA shit on to. Trump won't be around for very long.
This week has been bad for anyone who gives a shit about other people, and higher education, and checks and balances… need I go on? It’s exhausting for those of us that give a shit.
I had an inkling when he cheated an "won" the election. Now I know for sure that country is systematically destroyed by the enemy within. The orange buffoon is a terrorist and belongs in front of a judge in The Hague.
Yes everyone around me is just going about their business without a care in the world. Any attempts to educate them and I’m treated like I’m crazy and overreacting.
I feel you. I can't blame folks either, how are you supposed to eat if you don't work? Strikes take time and energy and they're for the long haul... Most folks don't have much of those things as it is, which just makes this all feel even worse.
Our ancestors survived though, so we must try, too.
So this is like my 5th coup (long story. I just end up places that overthrow elected governments) and not to alarm you but I purchased property and became fully off grid capable last GOP administration.
Sometime around the CIA operatives list being sold to Putin and Covid, I believe.
I have that feeling too, I am very depressed. I had some delusional belief that the level of oppression may spark somthing, but bread and circus'. I was even more upset earlier in the day seeing Biden diehards calling out "antisemitism" this morning. I have lost faith. I feel like action is required
We may eventually escape this nightmare but the damage already done will take decades to rebuild and some things like trusted ally will take even longer
We’re breaking from the inside out. The damage will take years to undo. There must be reckoning, accountability—even if it tears us apart. Still, I have to believe we’ll heal. Otherwise, what hope is left?
There's no coming back, the fascists won and they won't give back the power ever I guarantee orange Hitler and fElon have a plan so that they win every foreseeable election, hell I'm convinced elon rigged the last one but I guess we'll see
Yes, it is bad...it is part of the plan...to discourage good people because good people feel..
Milan Kundera (and I am paraphrasing) you either feel everything (connected) or feel nothing (the unbearable lightness of being)...
Authoritarian take-overs usually take decades to recover from. It's pretty rare for a country to just snap out of it after the span of a normal election cycle. We're in for a long haul.
Some countries don’t recover because corruption becomes part of their way of life, part of the societal mentality. Ask Argentina. Corruption, cheating the system, cheating others is in many ppl’s blood.
2026 it is imperative that Democrats take the house and try to take the Senate
I think the people are more aware now because they're out in the streets
I think there's hopeful
and then there's plain old denial.
Congress has abdicated its duty and no one in the regime is following the law.
Hard to keep pretending democracy is still holding.

I’m not giving up but I’m extremely concerned. My heart just breaks more and more every single day.
SCOTUS could make life much easier
We will build back by recognizing the many things we did poorly.
It will be a better country for your children.
I actually took a break the other night to watch cathartic revolution in handmaid's tale. I would have rewatched Andor again but it's too sunny for my current mood.
Even Holocaust survivors didn’t give up.

Yall are DONE done
To me, I see Americans waking up from a collective fog to realize how much democracy means to each of us. Millions of us are in this fight now -- and that makes all the difference.
Much peace, my friend.
That there's not enough resilience in the society and government to pull through, that the rot runs too deep, and that this is going to be a very very tough time.

I hope, but...
The signs have been there for a while.
At that point, everything else I felt between elections, felt like they were being actualized.
It was there all along.
They just needed to get themselves into a powerful enough position to reveal their true nature
Senators (usually quite wealthy) pretty much ran the country.
I shudder to find myself agreeing with Ted Cruz, Ron Johnson and Rand Paul, but that's the nature of politics.
The last three days have left me really depressed and with a sense that every evil, corrupt thing Republicans can do they will.
Watching it all fall apart and watching that destruction accelerate.
Tough being an American these days.
Maybe there's a chance it's a very bad bump in the road
Then we met the capitalists on the road
they refused to compromise so we invented something new
no more dictatorial, monarchical executives
just cooperatives and public banks
We're not cooked, we're FUBAR!

I had hope a couple of weeks ago. It really doesn’t feel like America is up for this fight.
It’s not time to start executing our escape plan but it’s getting pretty darn close.
But the damage is already done and we’re waiting for it to kink in now
It’s past time to get ahead of what is coming
Because it’s coming
Seeing the world through their eyes is MAGICAL. The sandbox turns into a cafe that serves pancakes, brownies, etc.
Reckoning is upon us.
"Rich people won't let it get that bad," lectures the family attorney.
Warnings fall on deaf ears.
I thought by now most would be engaging in massive national strikes along with the boycotts. Weekend protests help but not anywhere near enough.
Our ancestors survived though, so we must try, too.
Completely broken.
Sometime around the CIA operatives list being sold to Putin and Covid, I believe.
As long as they pretend at democracy, there's time for Americans to rise up and take the country back.
Milan Kundera (and I am paraphrasing) you either feel everything (connected) or feel nothing (the unbearable lightness of being)...
We cannot stop living though. We must continue to be the helpers as much as we can..
I think the people are more aware now because they're out in the streets
There are many I know who deserve everything coming to them.
I guess my small silver lining is they will get theirs, and most of them worse than I will.
and then there's plain old denial.
Congress has abdicated its duty and no one in the regime is following the law.
