You missed that Ukraine wasn't an independent state until 1991. Before perestroika, it was part of the Soviet Union, which suffered the greatest number of casualties in WWII.

You got me! All kidding aside. As a fellow member of the commonwealth, a simple “the UK supports Canada as an independent country” would have been noticed and appreciated here. Instead, there is a simmering anger.
