Turquoise waters because they're virtually lifeless. The Mediterranean folk learned from us in WWII to bomb the fish. Easy. Except they killed entire ecosystems. Corsica and Sardinia are also highly corrupt and overbuilt.

Been twice and love it. I recommend Tharros for a glimpse at cultures from nuraghe builders through the Romans. Been to 10 beaches of the 100 or so. You can also eat a "Lemmyburger" from a rock-themed food truck in Santa Teresa Gallura while gazing off at Corsica and listening to Hendrix.
