Sigh. Here we go again. It's really important that people are smart about this story re: Trump admin using Signal to discuss war plans.
The center-left media wants to make the story about Trump admin fucking up, which they did. But in the process they're falsely implying that Signal is "insecure."π§΅

Liberal twitter ballistic over report that florida school ordered MLK jr posters torn off wall
two days later, NO ONE: the posters were carefully removed cause it was a special ed class and the posters could be put up on a different wall
(Ok well maybe not never but almost never)

That reporter is a pretty awful genocide supporter. Seems like the kinda guy to dream up dirty tricks and try to sway public opinion. But Incompetence is more likely than psyops.
It's open source, it's end-to-end encrypted, and it has helpful features like disappearing messages.
For most of us, this is as good as it gets, and everyone should be using it for daily messaging, activism, etc.
I use Wire.

Genuinely asking because idk
Fine for journos, activists, etc. Signal is great for them.
But incredibly sketchy for a government. The *whole thing* is being run off the books. This is very bad.
Officials are high profile targets and the personal devices of high profile target are not safe, therefore signal is not safe for these users.
Signal is an excellent app for private use but has absolutely no place in nation state OPSEC.
That statement is true, though.
No, itβs not falsely implying. Signal is insecure. It is great for private use but in the context of national security and governments it is not secure. No matter how excellent the protocol is, the devices are not. At that point it becomes an academic discussion.
And, honestly, that is usually not at all secure.
