Missed opportunities: ringed with planting & maintained trees with islands of understory. Outer corridor could house small to medium merchants. Parking could have been put underground with possibility of green canopy, community gardens. Solar shelters for renewable energy. Micro parks for gathering.
Having only ever been to Fenway Park among MLB stadiums previously, going to Dodger Stadium in June was radicalizing. Even in a car dependent area it’s ridiculous - at least Gillette’s exurban hell has a major US Route running right by it! This has *nothing*!
If you haven’t previously read it, cannot recommend highly enough Eric Nusbaum’s “Stealing Home” on the backstory of how a whole community was razed to build Dodger Stadium.
Comments
Because he kept half the land it prevented a reassessment and kept the taxes low.
The stadium wouldn’t qualify for the loophole since it is regularly renovated anyways, so that was left out.
In lieu of rising taxes it’s the one way we can prevent squatters like McCourt to profit from the hard work of the community that surrounds them.
I love the Dodgers and I want to die in a world where I cannot drive to their games.
