America is blissfully unaware that their tourism industry will be decimated for a decade, likely a generation.

They still think this is a temporary tariff dispute, and are used to recovering quickly … but Canadians and Mexicans are their top customers by far. They ain’t coming back anytime soon.

While I think other aspects of the relationship will be damaged long-term due to the fear that the switch will get flipped every 4 years, I don’t think tourism is one of them.

Many are really frustrated by having their vacation routines changed & will go back as soon as there’s ANY improvement.

yeah if that continues to break through in the media I think the impact will be at least as long as the Trump admin, but even so I foresee people booking flights and hotels at 11 PM on election night 2028, whereas other interactions will be much slower to thaw.

This is true for most, but not for me. I see quite clearly and am grieving the loss of these relationships that took a century to forge. I wish that I had skills either Mexico and Canada wanted and I would love. But I am 56 years old and not a millionaire so I have nothing.

I know people who are planning for the World Cup and you have to join the official national supporters club, go to games to get loyalty points, and they are already wanting just to go to Mexico in the case of the people I know
