You can't tell me we don't need a specialist #6. Grav has done really well, but his shortcomings are so obvious I don't get why people think otherwise. Dom and Macca have been carrying him in that role, and it's diminishing their own output #LFC

Tbf to Gravenberch, he’s played & played & played & run & run & run until he looks like he can’t physically do it anymore. I take your point, but it’s a case of getting in someone who can share the work & offer something different too, for me.
PSG is the wrong tie to take this conclusion from. A specialist 6 is redundant against a side that moves the ball that quickly, with such pace and movement. Either you win the press high against Vitinha and defence, or they're 1-on-1 with the fullbacks. Jones earlier would have been interesting.
Seriously? Did you read my post and thought this was about the PSG game? He's been limited in the role all season. He's played well there for someone learning on the job, but there's a lot of a specialist #6 attributes and instincts he just lacks. There's a reason Slot wanted Zubimendi fcs.
I don’t think it’s redundant at all, tbh. There are many types of 6’s. What we lack is someone very much like PSG have. He’s not a traditional No6. He’s an exceptional controlling No6.
We have someone very like Vitinha, but we don't play him as a 6. That was my point in the previous - in this game, certainly the second half, we may have been better having Mac as the controlling 6, with Szoboszlai and Jones both pressing higher, as Gravenberch was bypassed anyway.
Macca is the best 2nd baller in the Premier League, though. He’s a front foot presser. He disrupted PSG’s buildup for us, & won numerous duels. Asking him to play as a 6 creates more problems than it solves, IMO. And Rich is talking about in future, not just this game specifically.
I’m in favour of that & have been for a while, as you know. I think it will help bring balance in certain games. Could give us extra power, or better control, & allow us to try different blends in midfield.
