Joseph Goebbels was a literal Nazi and one of Hitler's closest allies.

To my Republican colleagues, it is probably best not to quote him during a congressional hearing.

Apart from a criminal action, I think it is still the safest way. Also, this quote with the purpose of spreading ideology almost certainly gets you in trouble with the law (§86a STGB). But I agree, the rise of the afd has changed things in an alarming way.

I am a bit conflicted on this. Sure, clips out of context are not good. But even in context this should not be an acceptable thing to do. Pretending that Biden's fight against disinformation is Nazism is a normalization of Nazi viewpoints and symbolism akin to Elon's Roman salute.

I agree that comparing your opponents politics to Nazism is a cheap shot. Looking at the comments though, people think the speaker agrees with Goebbels. Maybe you could preface it with "Even though he thinks Goebbels is wrong, quoting him has this and this effect...". Could this avoid the confusion?

Maybe. I am not sure it's as innocent as you seem to believe. Nazi rhetoric and symbolism creeps in everywhere and I am not convinced that this guy believes Goebbels was wrong. After all, he has been involved in a similar controversy before.

JFC. One grandfather volunteered to the British Army while farming tobacco in Rhodesia (I don't why he was there, he was the son of cattle farmers in Ireland).
The other was conscripted into the Wermacht (he also served in WW1).

There is just no limit to this administration.
