Absolutely. I played freshman football in college and the varsity had 3 future pros. Wanted no part of them. What about you, Mark, did you have a scholarship?
No, I wasn’t good enough. I had the privilege to practice against the basketball team at Alabama a few times until I tore my rotator cuff one day while playing. Played with guys like Evan Brock, Mo Williams and Antoine Pettway.
Played high school football with Michael Boley who won a ring with…
The giants. He was an all American in college at southern Miss. played high school baseball against a guy that got drafted in baseball. He ended up tearing his elbow up before he made the majors. Scouts at the game and he was throwing 98. I got a hit though lol. Glory days
I also spent a summer between my junior and senior year in high school working and playing ball in atlanta. This local YMCA had a bunch of D2/D3 guys that came and played daily in the summer. Some of the best basketball I’ve ever seen. Basically indoor street ball.
Always eye-opening the first time you try to compete against someone "levels" above.
I had an elevated sense of how good I was in HS. Working out in summer, a guy walked in gym. He proceeded to just give me buckets for about 2 hours straight. A few yrs removed from Mr. Bball in Texas.
My son played D3 volleyball and my daughter played D2 VB with a partial scholarship. But we knew that was her limit. As the NCAA likes to say, she went pro as a 4th-grade teacher.
Every time I see a youth sports discussion like this, I can’t help but think that a College/Trade School for all program would’ve relieved a lot of the scholarship pressure on these families.
I mean, some ppl are still gonna be outrageously competitive over youth sports but yeah.

My kids played pretty high level AAU (not the Peach jam level) and any of those kids who played in college played D3
