Not sure what to make of this. Merchan may put himself at risk for political retribution by Trump’s henchmen or he will issue a slap on the wrist, community service type sentence. Surprising decision to say the least.
The judge said that he is inclined to sentence him to unconditional discharge. This maintains his felony convictions, but waves any other form of punishment.
Teflon Don will likely not be punished in any manner. Our justice system is so unfair — the powerful get away without any repercussions while the poor are given lifelong punishment!
Think he’ll at least get house arrest? I want to see at least something that inconveniences the hell outta him. Doubt it though, but I’m really hoping for one of those magically creative sentences you typically only see in movies 😆
But him being a felon is almost meaningless. Most negative consequences normal felons are subject to will never apply to him, at least not in this country.
Yeah, I know that he won't actually receive punishment, but his ego is so monumental that this will really get to him. Plus he won't be able to erase the conviction. Small comfort, I know....
There is nothing "stunning" about a judge ordering a convicted felon, found guilty by a jury, to appear at his sentencing hearing. It's the way the system is supposed to work.

Trump is being sentenced on Jan. 10, but the judge has already indicated the sentence won’t include jail time. Because of his age and lack of prior convictions,Trump likely wouldn’t get jail time anyway. Still, it will be interesting to see how the judge signals he takes the crimes seriously.
A sentence of incarceration may not be on the table but their will still be a sentence. Whether that is an ACD or something else...a sentence will still exist. People are sentenced all the time and don't go to jail so their will be a sentence.
Not arguing that at all. He is a convicted felon and he will have a sentence that is far from justice. It will send a bad precedent to whoever else is convicted of falsifying business paperwork in NYS from now on.

I’ve seen that as a convicted felon he can’t enter a sizable number of countries, many of which are allies
