In a shameless attempt to grow my following on here, I'm going to be giving away a GE2024 poster to one lucky winner who retweets this post (and is following) in 24 hours time. Best of luck!

I don’t want this poster, because I’m gutted that despite a HUGE amount of work by a very small but dedicated orange team, my constituency stayed blue.
But I’m sure someone else will love it.
And I’m glad you’re here!
What are the circumstances which make Southern Scotland so Tory?
Some of the worst predictions for the GE before the vote showed the Tory party with just 30 odd seats and them being mostly from Scotland.
From what I understand - and there's better Scottish politics voices than me - it's a deep-rooted tradition of liberalism (the Gladstone kind) and before that, Whig thought, dating back to the early c19th in those parts of Scotland.
Possibly an odd late take from this map, but… By careful selection of my route I could drive from West London to the edge of Devon while never leaving constituencies held by the Liberal Democrats (And so avoiding any Tory areas).😁
Quite an achievement from where the LibDems were before the Election.

Even the SNP’s nickname used to be The Tartan Tories. And they fight with the Tories over Aberdeenshire constantly.
In part due to the LibDem collapse, in part due to demographic change.
@stuartwilksheeg.bsky.social!
I'll be in touch shortly :)
Look forward to more of your output on this platform.
That's the old place...
How about a reskeet?
