We do all in person and rarely use maps but combat always flusters me so the less I need to think or pull up a different program the better. One day I’ll be smooth enough to just use pen n paper.
I wish having a laptop at the physical table wasn't as useful as it is. The temptation to have the tech with you always feels at odds with the analog nature of the game. I've seen people use marker boards or even thick, labelled clothespins atop the GM screen to track initiative well.
Yeah, I am lucky our group is fully locked in and never distracted but I’ve really enjoyed some of the one shot / smaller ttrpg systems we’ve played that had no digital devices needed.
There's so many ttrpg / dnd5e plugins for obsidian and they are all so overengineered, like I'd be spending 300% of my time prepping and not playing, which I think some people enjoy but ugh
I figure if people could do it with pen & paper, I can figure it out with some tables, though I will miss notions dbs because they made setting up encounters with just some tags really easy
