For general storytelling history... the 18th century "gothic orientalism" novel that made that drug palace decadent oriental archtype is thr French novel Vathek. Skim the summary and you'll see the ancestor of Jabba in there, though Vathek is a handsome decadent sultan.

The early version od Jabba looked "too much like Fu Manchu", you can see it in the 80s behind the scenes VHS.

The Star Wars poster artist was a huge Fu Manchu fan, and in the 90s they finally got a space Fu Manchu villain in novels and games.
