Anti worker too. They already understaff the stores. This just adds another task that requires interacting with a customer who is agitated that they had to come find a worker. It's all shit.
Trump threats to mess with tariffs is causing these lock downs. Americans won't be able to buy, afford nor get certain things from other countries. The people who voted for him believing he was really going to lower grocery prices, umm! Robots are taking over jobs not Hispanics,so you won't have 💶
Went to Walgreens Saturday to fill my dog's script because GoodRx had them having the best price.
Their pharmacy is now closed on Saturdays. SATURDAYS. No pharmacists at all. WHAT INSANITY IS TIS? I barely went there anymore anyway, but now there’s no point.
Retired Pharmacist here, When I worked for Walgreen's back in 1990 for a spell there were 1850 Walgreens, there are now more than 8000, they can't even hire enough Pharmacists because they are so over extended and they are insanely overworked and short staffed. 1/2
75% of all Retail Pharmacy revenue is in the Pharmacy department, not enough Pharmacists (need at least 4, 6 for a 24 hour store) to staff for a Store and it is worthless.
It’s and inconvenience and worse an insult. I cross stores off my list because they’ll enact these practices in impoverished areas but not affluent ones.
Their option would be to have people arrested for stealing toothpaste.
You can order online and pick up through the pharmacy drive-through.
It’ll take a little getting used to…but, they’ve really have been given no choice.
Take it a step further, I have been a Walgreen's with several items to buy and found one that was locked up, tossed them all on the checkout counter and left without buying anything
This has always been an anti-worker move. They exhaust the consumer so next time they just use a subscription service to for delivery or pick up. It was never about theft. They can write that off and profits have been exponentially high for years.
The Brennan Center for Justice, American Political Science Review, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, and Pew Research Center all have studies showing voter suppression harms democracy. Yet Republicans persist. Self-destruction is, indeed, a thing.
I leave if a store has things locked up if I cannot find a person to help. There are usually a few people right there with me complaining about having to leave.
How many then just go home and order from amazon? ☹️
I walked into a Walgreens in San Francisco a few years ago and every single item was locked up. I walked out because it would have taken too much time to ask for help to get out every single item I needed
i mean if they literally explicitly told everyone that they intentionally bought out the competition to give people shitter service i’m assuming they’d have even more unhappy customers than they do now lol
walgreens is a pharmacy. they buy out the competition, pretend like shoplifting is just *too much* to bear, and close the store down. forcing customers to their other existing locations, fulfilling more RXs with less stores.
I see. My word. So many things going on: access/longer patient travel; buying out competition=unemployment; closing shop after buying out competition=more unemployment; less stores=even more unemployment..the community devastation in the long run must be quite something. Thanks for educating me
yep it’s all a vicious cycle with the only winners being walgreens shareholders. i’m sure this happens in other industries as well but it’s extremely common in this one.
and no worries, of course :) found an article talking about how many stores are closing
But does this work? If I don't buy stuff there, I'm not buying it online from them. If I'm not going there, why keep my scripts there? The doc offices and insurance are always trying to force me to online pharmacies
That's the frustrating part-tracking down someone to help you.
I asked why a CVS did that in Santa Cruz and the clerk said they were not allowed to confront anyone suspected of shop lifting, even when it's blatant. So locking stuff up was their solution.
My CVS does this. If the product I want is behind glass, I just don't buy it. I don't even try hitting the button. They always take about 5 min to actually come, sometimes longer. I go there for the convenience. Other stores are cheaper. Without that convenience there's no reason to go at all.
I’ve stopped going there since a pharmacist shamed a woman having a miscarriage who needed an abortion pill to finish her doctor’s prescribed treatment.
Pharmacist did that to her in front of her daughter. And refused to fill it.
I'm not following Walgreens logic if the consumers really wanted these items they wouldn't steal them from a store that has higher prices when the dollar store sell these items for much cheaper and they are not secured is it just Walgreens policy?
I get the increase in shoplifting, but I would personally rather drive to a completely different store than try to find someone to unlock that cabinet despite how much more time it would save me.
Of course, it hurts sales. Before I flag down an employee who will be annoyed about having to stop whatever they're doing to open up the toothpaste locker, I'll order it online.
If the local community may represent any indication of Walgreen's broader market, their market may be mostly elderly people - possibly folks avoiding the crowd of the supermarket, even with the far more limited selection and this nag thing from their corporate policy. I bet corporate knows this too

I corralled an employee after my first unlocking and told them to stay with me because there were a few more items on my list and I knew they would be locked up.
Racism prevails even at the cost of profits! Cuz this isn’t happening in white neighborhoods. They’d have Karens losing their minds if they had to wait 15 minutes for some toothpaste.
!!! I can’t even buy lube without asking some random teenager to unlock the thing for me so I can get home and blow my load! What kind of country is this?!??
In rural stores, there's no lockup of these in Walgreens. I'm assuming the cost of the losses of these being shoplifted outweighs the cost of loss of sales of these...
I think they should just limit inventory in the floor area not lock it up. Keep the rest in the back storage area. No need to have fully stocked shelves. Just enough for folks to pick up and buy. Then restock.
The definition of insanity. I am not waiting for an employee at an understaffed store to get me basic necessities. I will learn how to make my own toothpaste first...its not gotten to that point though (thank fuqk)
Opening a store on every corner doesn’t seem like a good long term plan. There are Walgreens on opposite corners of the same intersection competing with each other 😂🤦♀️
They probably lose a ton of money from shop listing rings. I rarely go to Walgreens and have seen someone walk out of Walgreens with trash bags full of stuff. At target someone ran out in front of my with a cart of Legos products. I usually order online if the person isn’t opening the cabinet fast
“It’s also cheaper for them to lock up products than add more employees, security and other major investments that may limit theft but make the store unprofitable to operate.”
mind you there’s usually only one person in the entire store to begin with!!!
When I go to a store and what I want to purchase is locked up I don't buy it there. Where I live in the South not everything is under lock and key, but I have travelled to places where it seemed everything was....

you may have good insurance, most insurance i’m aware of forces you to use certain pharmacies lol

Make a mistake, make a meal culpa, continue making the same mistake
The shareholders absolutely love this one trick, money hungry scumbags that they are
The looters cost way more than lost sales.
I'm sure suggeions would be welcome
A warehouse with a window would provide better customer service, than walking in and taking 30 minutes to get out with dental floss and donuts.
