Labour is fundamentally re-engineering Britain. It’s become almost impossible to do basic things like building homes or fitting a heat pump. Now a flurry of new laws are ending that era of national self-sabotage. 5 examples to be excited about:

This is like if China invested heavily in electric vehicles and so we did not because they were communist

Or maybe Stephen Miller is just really bad at authoritarian regime-building

I love this

US trade court says Trump’s global tariffs are illegal. Maybe @ec.europa.eu should refuse to make any deals until this is resolved? www.ft.com/content/bd64...

I'm not sure these guys know what they are meddling with

EXCL: John Swinney has been told to use "every lever" available to Holyrood to mitigate the UK government's immigration proposals that are poised to cause "catastrophe" to the NHS and social care www.scotsman.com/news/politic...

And maybe worth having a read of this again...

People who attack higher education, arguing for more vocational education, do fuck all to deliver vocational education. The Tories had a good idea (a training levy) and ended up with fewer apprentice starts than the Coalition. Also apprenticeships are just one model of vocational training.

The thing is, a lot of people who support Farage don't care he doesn't do his job. They want an entertainer, someone who will insult other nations. As long as he keeps doing that they adore him. We need to accept a lot of Brits are shitty people, not suckered marks.

So.... the fact that Trump's tariffs have been ruled to be unlawful, but the UK did a deal with him based on those tariffs being horrible..... is that deal valid? I'm pretty sure under English law it bloody wouldn't be!

From The Guardian. As with the Leave side’s Brexit promises, Farage doesn’t mention the cost downsides of his policies. However, since Brexit, we’ve felt the effects of the Truss lunacy. Will voters be taken in again? An astute move by Starmer to mention her chaos.

EU and United Arab Emirates begin talks on free trade agreement ec.europa.eu/commission/p...

Not sure we want it.

Absolute genius

🤦‍♂️ It would be great if Reform councillors could sort out real problems instead of inventing imaginary ones! informuk.org/reforms-phon...

Be under no illusion: abortion rights in the UK are under attack, and we must be unequivocal in our response. There are two amendments to the Crime and Policing Bill which would decriminalise abortion. We need this now more than ever.

Forcing universities to be ‘in sync’ with the administration is the opposite of academic freedom. This government is the opposite of a free speech champion.

The case for using "global majority" by institutions should be rejected unless + until it can be shown - most people understand what it means (most don't) - most people it is about would like it used (most don't) I find it a deeply incoherent fiction + a highly regressive term in some many ways

Don't miss this cross-party event on an EU Action Plan for Plant-based Foods!🌱 Inspired by Denmark’s example and the Strategic Dialogue report, it will explore how an EU Action Plan can boost sustainability and resilience in the food system 👩‍🌾🫘🥗 Register here: docs.google.com/forms/d/1GKk...

Meat industry studies compare red meat to other meats or carbs, while independent ones use plant-based diets. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition says readers should ask: Is red meat good or bad—compared to what?

Why We Should Be Promoting Plant-Based Diets in Healthcare 🌱 #plantbased #plantbasedfood #plantbaseddiet #healthcare #nutrition

The Guardian and others fawning over Farage, my MP, today - sucking up every word - is miserable. Why would we care what he'd do if he's PM? He won't be - he won't even be MP for Clacton after 2029. Did any journalists in the room today ask what he's doing for us? Views on low-income housing, Nigel?

#BBCNews still taking Reform headlines and amplifying them. Farage is the least trusted leader. Lib Dems and Greens #BBCNews?

Has #BBCNews reported on Nigel Farage's tax dodge using his French girlfriend yet? They broadcasted his stupid speech for an hour, today, but they don't investigate him. They just investigate Keir Starmer's suits. We have a truly dreadful TV news media. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

PM Ed Davey in waiting 😉🔶️

This should be deeply embarrassing to ex-human rights lawyer Keir Starmer www.theguardian.com/world/2025/m...

“If these plans go ahead, 700,000 families already living in poverty will face further devastation,” “This is not reform; it is cruelty by policy.”

By talking about encouraging larger families Farage is admitting we don't have sufficient 'british' workers and therefore we require immigration. I doubt any of the BBC's toadying journalists will pick up on that. #r4today

Yup.

Trump has deIeted his ranting Memorial Day post. It wasn't his call. What a pity the Internet has a long memory.

Another Trump deal. https://www.rfa.org/english/asia/2025/05/23/thailand-air-force-swedish-fighter-jet/

"Since 1997, there have been 25 commissions, inquiries and white papers. Now ministers want Louise Casey to take three more years for a review into adult social care. He says it’s enough to make you cry."

British food and flower importers complain they've spent millions preparing for full sanitary and phyto sanitary controls - demanded in Johnson's "oven ready" Brexit deal - only for the government’s EU reset to make them unnecessary. You couldn’t make it up!

From The Onion 🌰 theonion.com/trump-shares... "Trump [added] that he had narrowly avoided the attempt to eradicate white people and their culture by hiding for months in his 126-room Palm Beach resort"

A video claiming to show tanks preparing to advance towards St Petersburg from Tallinn in fact shows images from Estonia's Independence Day procession. #EuroVerify

All eyes on Georgia today! 🇬🇪 Not only is it Independence Day—it’s also Day 180 of protests. For six months, we’ve shown up every day—despite beatings, torture, arrests, and draconian fines. Without leaders. With the entire state machinery against us.

This. Parliament is in recess this week so MPs and peers have a week to consider what the state can do in response to this most public of incidents - where the police felt compelled to publish the ethnicity of the arrested individual in the first press release of arrests.
