It’s not forced underground; it’s just not something most people are interested in. Personally as a Liberal, I don’t want to dictate what women wear and take away their agency.

True. ID cards are just another tool to use. That can be mitigated by only allowing police to ask for ID if they have a valid reason (I think this is the case in the Netherlands).

After living in Belgium, where ID cards are compulsory: - ID cards can be used to harrass minorities/certain migrants (I was never randomly asked for ID in 11 years, but I'm Western European looking 😉) - Shouldn't have to show ID for no good reason (different to showing ID for legal stuff)

Not just about BBC, who may just want new faces. Nadiyah is well known & really good at what she does. You'd therefore expect her to have many offers from others, but it appears she hasn't. That she's a South Asian heritage woman who wears a hijab sadly may play a role (it shouldn't of course).

When an Asian woman (esp one who wears a hijab) is dumped by a broadcaster for no obvious reason (it's not because of performance!) & not immediately snapped up by others, it is not unreasonable to assume some discrimination may be at play.

Apart from the obvious racism/snobbery, it doesn't seem a good commercial decision. People who bake LOVE Nadiya because not only is she an amazing baker, but she's also a very engaging presenter whose joy & passion for baking shines through without being at all élitest.

It's great that #Labour is implementing #LibDem policies 😉

Politically naiive Musk thought he'd get a better ROI (return on investment) from his Trump "donations".

People who know her tell me she is just as transphobic as Faulkner, but much smarter, so likely to be more of a problem.

Probably more accurate to say economic security & social status. Unmarried women were looked down upon in a way unmarried men weren't. In the UK women only got the right to equal pay and to get a mortgage without a male guarantor 50 years ago. In human history 50 years isn't long!

In less densely populated areas, that makes sense, but many big US cities lack proper public transport. In LA, the car industry lobbied away the extensive tram network that had enabled the city to expand (my Grandma's cousin in LA showed me some of the old tracks in late 90s).
