So after some agonizing, I am not (as of yet) pulling out of WorldCon. I've already booked travel, and I don't want the decision of a few to spoil it for the many...Plus it's going to be my daughter's first WorldCon, and I don't want to lose that. I think at least a few people are pulling out of programming specifically but still planning to attend.

Side benefit of not getting accepted onto programming: I don’t need to decide whether to pull out.

Yeah, for me a lot will depend on how they respond. If their response is within acceptable parameters, I'll stay in specifically because I feel really bad for the fans/attendees who bought tickets and made plans they can't change and deserve a good event. If they double down, I'll likely bow out.

Either way, I know of so many great writers (some of whom have shown themselves to be great panelists) who didn’t make it onto programming, and I was already preparing myself for a less than stellar selection of writing/literature panels. At this point, I’m going in order to see my friends.

Yuuuup. I keep finding out about more and more people who in any sane world would be shoo-ins to be on the program who got rejected. It's mind-boggling, and unfair to the fans even more than to the authors.

Yeah, I'm struggling - we already booked family travel as well, my kid's looking forward to it, the plane tickets are bought, and I'm committed to a bookstore event in the area. I hate that it's another event that gets an asterisk in the historical record...

I mean, fortunately, Seattle is a great place to visit regardless! I'm waiting to see how they respond now, and really hoping they take sufficient accountability that I can still attend...but even so, it's not going to be the same. It's so frustrating.

The degree to which they shot themselves in the foot is really astonishing. It was always going to be a rocky year because of the danger to international visitors, which wasn't their fault, but they brought this one on themselves.
