Actually, I didn’t mention them because it would be cruel to lump them with Israel, but I actually don’t think any non European country should be in a Eurovision contest. Change the name, allow global entry and then it’s about whether or not you allow countries inflicting genocide alone.
Not that big, it turns out. TikTok is all over the evidence that the Israeli government were advertising (against the rules) to get people to vote for ages before the night.
My theory (and I'll stick with it until I actually have evidence) is that a lot of the popular vote comes down to the fact that some countries have a more extensive diaspora than others. Also, some are probably more organised than others.
You can vote up to 20 times per device, so I imagine that motivated pro Israel voters can generate some significant numbers whilst all other votes are split between 25 countries making it hard for another performer to overtake them
Last year there was an organised campaign on social media to get as many votes to Israel as possible and I would well imagine it’s happened again. It’s why I’m still boycotting because the EBU are an embarrassment on this issue.
