I love how I can’t find meaningful work to save my life, and prices of everything are rising, but the unemployment rate is still very low, don’t you see. Stop complaining!
If everyone is facing personal economic hardship, it's not hard to understand why they didn't vote for the party insisting they were fine. 🤷♂️ This isn't difficult calculus.
I have a good subthread going on with "The Last Essential White Guy" that addresses this. I'd prefer this be read in context, especially with the messages directly before it, but this is the key point I reach:
Ironic because the Trump administration will not do anything to improve economy while increasing taxes on Middle Clas and reducing taxes for the Wealthy.
Lesser of two evils was obvious from the beginning.
Americans need to improve critical thinking skills.
You're not wrong, but we have to get away from the notion that defending someone else's logic in their vote is an endorsement of that vote.
We're not all going to think alike or see all the same inputs, so we won't arrive at the same conclusions. We have to understand the true reason we lost.
Cool. Then we agree that Democrats need to have an economic vision to sell to voters because “everything is fine and going great” was not a winning economic message
Trump said that he "took care of everybody". I don't believe Kamala ever denied that some people were facing hardship.
So why is it so much easier for you to dream up of justifications to vote Republican instead of Democratic?
Repeating for the nth time: this isn't about Dem vs. Rep, this is about people who *didn't vote at all*. I know folks like to claim those non-voters for Reps but that doesn't make any sense.
Harris suggested: building new housing, investing in businesses "building affordable rental housing", speeding up permitting and review processes, limiting some other things for home-ownership, providing a fund for new homeowners.
(I'm obviously not suggesting that Trump's policies were any better, but "we made it more affordable for your landlords to fuck you and you still have expensive private health insurance forever :)" is a hard fucking sell, you guys)
(rubs temples harder)
LISEP data shows every single day of Trump's economy was WORSE than Biden's outside of 6 mos coming out of the pandemic. But Trump voters told every MSM outlet they really wanted to go back to the "Trump economy". By your own reasoning *Trump* should've been facing voters wrath
"Look, you don't have to tell me that all the refs were the parents of the other teams' kids. Or that they literally removed the hoop from our end of the court. Or that they crashed the bus carrying our team, forcing us to use a bunch of eighth graders. But what was truly inexcusable? Our gameplan
If your gameplan involved not calling out the refs, the other team, or the people who crashed the bus.. all out of a sense of maintaining civility... then yeah your gameplan was busted
I know. Economic disparity has been growing since Reagan at least, and the metrics the pundits have been looking at have been the wrong metrics the whole time. The dems blow away those metrics and GOP fails them, but they're bad metrics.
That's like 40 years. That's why people have all tuned out.
the thing is: I study economics. I can go point for point with them, but they're so dedicated to the narrative that they simply move the goalposts to favorable data.
yeah, the immediate backlash against the politico article that was titled "the voters were right about the economy, the data was wrong" makes me think it's an op.
the desperation for which they need people to believe that poverty is a lie is telling.
the problem with the conclusion people jumped to is the data in that article showed a worse economy in 2019 than in 2023. So it doesn't explain consumer sentiments any better than normal unemployment
Jesse Singal follower: the article wasn't talking about that. It was pointing out a clear problem with the way data is presented to people complaining about how they interact with the economy.
the article clearly proves that the metrics used to say "the economy is good, actually" are insufficient.
I'm in the green area but feel not sufficiently pandered to, so I'm going to vote for the people that want to put me in the red but blame DEI and the existence of genders for it.
Well you see median income is less than 2x the poverty line so we did it poverty has been stopped and quality of life is a fake metric made by the anti-chart lobby
Explaining that the Industrial Revolution found it easier to “train” children than it was to “train” adults for the extreme work industries wanted also makes people really confused.
This is a fascist coup. An act of war. Respond as such. If you love Democracy, respond as George Washington did when called to lead. Respond as Winston Churchill did when called to lead. Respond as Nelson Mandela did when called to lead. Together we win. 🇺🇸❤️✊🏽❤️✊🏼❤️✊🏿❤️✊🏻❤️✊🏾❤️🇺🇸 https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/eve...

Democrats favoring Middle was clear.

Now it will get incredibly worse under Trump. They also deluded themselves into thinking the Republicans were not lying about Everything.
Oh, I get it. I voted gor the Lesser of two Evils.
“Everything is fine and going great” wasn’t exactly a winner now was it?
Great message, I can't understand why they didn't win
So why is it so much easier for you to dream up of justifications to vote Republican instead of Democratic?
I'm not saying those are BAD policies. But they are not EXCITING or compelling policies for people who are struggling to pay their bills.

All you people are telling me things as if I didn't know them. lol. I agree with all of you! You don't have to convince me.
But none of this actually counters anything I've said: Dem messaging failed to relate to voters adequately.
That's like 40 years. That's why people have all tuned out.
if you do not like the ruling class and enjoy seeing a funny ironic joke mocking their positions, then this is for you.
if you enjoy graphs that show line goes up and telling poor people that they're imagining their strife, maybe not.

making me fucking crazy wasting my fucking time.

Will look like boom times in retrospect (it was).
