Fair points and here's another data point: because I cannot filter notifications for replies only, I found it close to impossible to engage with people who were responding to my posts, and I saw useful responses like 24 hours after the fact.

I made my own feed of "Interesting tweeters" and add anyone whose tweets I particularly enjoy to it. I still go on the full follower list or Discover sometimes but now my own feed is getting bigger I spend most of my time on it.

I'm growing a list of people who interact with me. It proves they are here, like what I post and sometimes get into interesting conversations with me. That way I can give priority to their posts.

lists are a good way to filter follow groups - currently new lists have to be created using the web version, once created you can add and remove people whilst using the bluesky app.

Oh god yeah that's entirely fair lol, but it's got to the point where as someone who Posts I just can't follow my mentions anymore unless I make it my full time job so hoping it gets sorted soonish!

There’s a third party web client called Skeetdeck (I know, terrible name) that allows you to filter notifications to just mentions.

Ah thanks but I want more than that! On Twitter it was filtered to only people I followed back, that's what I'm really missing (no shade to everyone else, I always checked my broader mentions semi often, but otherwise that whole tab is just unusable for me)

Several posts on this suggest muting posts/replies from people you don’t follow - I’m fairly old so prob don’t understand the mechanics of this well, but wasn’t the point of SM to put something out there & hear what people you don’t already know think of it? (I get not wanting to hear from abusives)

In the very early days Twitter didn’t filter and after it went through a large user growth spurt it became timeline chaos. I was thinking BSky is probably past that point now where they have to move to the “appears only if you follow both” default.
