NEW: In nearly 350 death penalty cases Maricopa County prosecutors pursued over 20 years, just 13% ended in a death sentence. The numbers indicate the need for a more deliberate and transparent process to decide capital charges, experts say.

Super fun game to play when doing death penalty work in AZ: what deaths are *not* eligible for the death penalty? Taser? Death eligible. Felony murder (e.g., guy on trial didn't pull the trigger)? Death eligible. Guy who died saw it coming? Death eligible. That's why it's all up to descretion.
My mom gave me a book about 14-year-old Steven Truscott sentenced to hang for the rape/murder of his 13-year-old classmate in 1959. A campaign by Pope John XXIII got his sentence commuted to life. Cops/prosecutors/the coroner committed perjury to convict hm. I've opposed the death penalty ever since
