On denying refugees citizenship, I’m choosing my response really carefully.
It’s cynical.
This issue has been pushed on GBNews the last weeks, because the new Borders Bill actually repealed unused Tory legislation that imposed the requirement to remove anyone who arrives irregularly. #r4today

Wind forward & immigration is down to low thousands, what are reform voters going to do when they still can’t get a job, NHS appointment, a mortgage & energy bills are still too high!!
Immigrants aren’t the problem!
In short, this is exactly what the Tories did:
They are not pretending to be decent, they WANT to be seen as cruel. #r4today
The political classes, of all parties, don't want a society where wealth is fairly shared. @greenparty.org.uk has shifted from "common good" to tax the super rich: ie the moderately rich, which most members are, shouldn't need to share
Same thing they were doing with JC and Abbot pre-election and also with the EU red lines. 😕
You punish refugees whose homelands are dangerous.
You damage integration & weaken diverse communities.
You trash the UK’s commitments under the Refugee Convention (which explicitly bans this).
Labour’s fully joined the club. #r4today
I would argue that means you won't be imprisoned, fined or otherwise mistreated.
Excluded from receiving a citizenship status is stretching it, isn't it?
the Tories DIDNT win.
I don’t think appeals to conscience will have impact, they haven’t done something this horrible by mistake.
The question is only if they’ll win.
If there really is only appetite for cruelty or more cruelty in politics. #r4today
Oh for them to use their majority to bring some positive change rather than performative cruelty.
Sticking to a decent set of values will take centre stage again at some point but only when the backlash to authoritarianism and selfishness comes, as it will
Meanwhile we stand strong together
Labour spout celebrating diversity and inclusion while telling refugees that they’ll never be ‘one of us’.
#KeirChamberlain sucking up to Trump is the final straw.
The political class decided it was good politics to imprison 80year olds for protesting climate change
But it amounts to cruelty, for sure, from the point of view of someone with compassion. Or ‘woke’, as the cruel like to say.
They need to be followed with a cocktail and a loud FFS in private. 😉
So reinforcing the Reform vote.
Oh dear.
Doesn't say who the barrister is though
I did say this before the election, labour could not be trusted, it gives me no pleasure to be right.
A cruel and unnecessary move on refugees who have already suffered enough.
All refugees have in common is the danger they are in wherever they come from, beyond that they will be a disparate collection of people.
There is nothing about being a refugee that identifies one as unworthy to be a UK citizen.
