McDonald’s or Kentucky Fried Chicken (before it was called KFC) takeout. Kraft dinner with canned tuna. Spaghetti. Can’t remember what else. Although once in France it was white wine steamed mussels
If you can find it Annie’s Mac and cheese uses less artificial stuff than Kraft. You can get it at Canadian Costco. Very useful to feed hungry kids in a pinch.
Wow, I thought that was a local phenomenon. The vegetables were almost always frozen spinach, peas or pea with lima bean and carrot medley, or canned green beans, and very occasionally, broccoli from the store. We also had iceberg lettuce salads.
My diet in college was much more fresh veggie forward, but I thought that was because I moved to the big city where we had things like Romaine lettuce and fresh spinach in the grocery store--but maybe it was the 80s/90s divide.
My experience is very similar - the only fresh veggies were broccoli, red pepper (only in wok chicken) and cucumbers. We even had a garden and all I remember eating was muskmelon!
My parents made tuna noodle casserole for my kids the last time my wife and I went out of town....the kids were complaining about it for at least a week after we returned 😂
I've been making a pared down version of a casserole my mom used to make (in the microwave!). But I finally remembered the rest of the ingredients and 🤮
The original: macaroni, cottage cheese, Campbell's cheddar cheese soup, tuna, & French's crispy onions on top (w/lots of onion pwdr and pepper)
Thankfully, besides the the occasional tv dinner or meatloaf, we got a lot of homemade pasta. Benefits of being 1st Gen Canadian from Italian immigrants. I do homemade pasta rarely for my kids, though we’ve jar our own tomato sauce.
We got lots of meatloaf (being British descent) and various more interesting meals. My parents liked Indian and Middle Eastern foods.
Despite 2 working parents, never a tv dinner ☹️

I was married at least 10 years before I would eat a pork chop again.

In the summer, we had zucchini's from the garden.
