The "bluesky is an echo chamber" think pieces that keep popping up really tickle me because they show how certain people genuinely believe social media should be for debating and arguing and not talking about the things that make you happy and sharing art with the world.

The Internet wasn't always like this. They used to have forums that would ban you for being off-topic or racist. People choosing not to engage with RW culture isn't an echo chamber.

It's why I gave up on most social media. I just want to see posts about things I'm interested in without people arguing constantly and bringing politics into posts that aren't even remotely political

Respectfully disagree about what social media is really used for. I believe it is a more accessible version of a blog, where ppl post whatever they want. It could be positive, specific things, to encourage debate or simply to vent like an op-ed or that segment from Family Guy “Grind My Gears”

No reason why it can’t be both. You grow from encountering people sharing what they love and from having your own preferences engaged with/ challenged. The trick is being open-minded/engaging in good faith. An engine built around engagement farming that rewards animosity makes that very difficult.

It’s like when certain people say, “AEW doesn’t have stories.” Aside from being factually incorrect, those people don’t quite understand that they’re the echo chamber. The entire reason X is failing is because it’s an echo chamber. There are no legit discussions happening there. It’s deflection.

I feel that someone should create a bot to post a link to the AEW November Rain video whenever someone posts "AEW has no stories".

I've been bringing up your own thesis on these people.

They can't stand each other, and cruelty is their own form of communal bonding, so colonizing Twitter still doesn't make them satisfied enough.
