I've no objection to giving kids opportunities to write poetry (although it's mostly rubbish because it's very hard), but it shouldn't be something that we're trying to "achieve" or "measure"

I agree. I think if it’s guided well, outcomes can be brilliant. I’d want my school to push it for reasons beyond writing - self-expression, self-esteem, valuing themselves, playing with language…
