My blood drive copy is gone now but it's probably the least optimized vita game and the thing that really bothers me is it slips pretty deep in the ero-guro and it's just so weird.

The games are sprinkled with some but the first is mostly humor based on those moments. The second one has up skirts during violence and it has realistic ASMR mics used so you get a girl screaming for help while being dragged. But somebody pushed to get panty shots for no reason lol

There were already panty shots in the 3DS version. Like finding your dead friend but angling her corpse so you can just see up her skirt. And A LOT of screaming and violent squishy sound effects. It was all so over-the-top it was just silly. It took itself so completely serious

Lmao see the issue is it gets way more with each game. That scene it's just there, but by the vita game you have scenes just for that. It's definitely a series that's great in horror but they just do things that go off the rails.

I don’t think it did for a physical NA release. That 3DS game is, I think, basically the same “Corpse Party” available digitally on PSN, Steam, etc. in the NA region, even though it’s an expanded version of a remaster of a remake… or something like that.

I know there’s no physical version, but I do hope you get to play Book of Shadows. It’s mostly like… What-if stuff for the first game, but its final chapter is a direct lead-in to Blood Drive.

Blood Drive on PS Vita is plain awful. I pre-ordered it back in the day and the frame rate dips as soon as you turn on the flashlight which makes it unplayable for me.

I love the first two though. :)

Really didn't like Blood Drive, as it does indeed go off the rails, but also while going to 3D, they try to do real time lighting on the PS Vita and it drops the framerate during normal gameplay to like 10 FPS. So playing that on original hardware makes for a very scuffed experience.

Probably in Japan but in North America it’s just these two! Maybe there’s English language PAL releases, I’d need to check again, there’s a lot of games and ports and rereleases and remakes.

If I remember correctly, the Vita copy came with a physical art book or calendar packaged with it originally (though it may have been a separate pre-order deal). Worked at a game store at the time and thought it was a cool add-on.

Book of Shadows is fun. A VN compilation of side stories (except the ending, which is *the* continuation of the story). Most are written by other authors so there's a variety of styles, to the point where one's a mix of shojo and horror. Pretty interesting!

You should skip Sachiko's Birthday tho.

Oh yea, I forgot to mention. Book of Shadows also features some dungeon adventure segments where you can navigate the school while still being a VN. Pretty cool, a bit left field even!

The 3DS game was basically a VN already. You could walk around but it’s not like there were random battles. Just stuff to collect and bad ending to find. But the actual “game” part is very thin.

I mean... you're not wrong and it's on VNDB, but it kinda feels wrong to say it's a VN 😅 specially since Corpse Party was in of itself a pioneer in the horror adventure genre, not just for RPGMaker games. It released like one month apart from Resident Evil, that's how early to the Party (heh) it was

Apparently the very very original game from 1996 is heavily inspired by Sweet Home and was more an actual RPG. This version was originally a remake made for cell phones that was again remade for the PSP, I think. But it was more plot focused to play better on phones.

Glad that you mention it! I actually made a whole flowchart about the different versions of Corpse Party because the remake situation it's a topic in of itself. It doesn't count the manga/OVA/CDDrama versions and might be a little out of date, but it still holds up. :D
