My personal feeling is Remembrance Day should strictly be on/for/about Remembrance Day. If it falls on a Saturday, close everything on Saturday. If you work M-F and it falls on a Saturday or Sunday, go to work on Monday. It feels kinda wrong to me to try to turn it into a long weekend when it’s not.
If I take the time to honour Remembrance Day on a Saturday, that means I haven’t gotten to do the things I normally take care of on a Saturday, like running errands and picking up groceries etc. so I think it’s fair to have Monday to do that. My weekends are so limited when I’m working M-F.
Fair point although officially speaking Nova Scotia doesn’t agree and it’s up to the employer. Many of the 9-5 jobs I’ve had at private companies didn’t give us Monday off when it fell on a weekend. Pretty sure IMP did and maybe Cyberplex but not the other agencies I worked at 🤷🏻♂️ (self-employed now)
things that would normally be closed on saturday (offices, etc.) are closed on monday … most things (there are exceptions … drug stores, etc.) that are normally open on saturday will be closed in the actual day.
