A few years ago, I traded out being a Pirates fan and decided to be a Mets fan... it sounds odd and strange, but simply tuning out baseball is more enjoyable than rooting for the Pirates, so I'm calling that an upgrade?

My father grew up in the Bronx. His father was a NY Giants fan (both). The baseball one up and moved and he never gave the Yankees a thought. 1962 came and he became a Mets fan. 1974 comes along and I’m born, a Mets fan a few years later when we start going to games.

My late great-uncle was also a Giants-to-Mets fan. I think the expansion case is different because there’s no previous antipathy towards the rival team that remained when your favorite team left.
