Oh - I imagine it was more common than western trained male anthroplogists have hypothesized. We are finding out more and more women's societal roles were much more important and active than originally believed.
I remember reading an article years ago about a Celtic Woman that was found buried with armor and weaponry, and it was very high-end stuff. It suggested that she may have been a leader of a military unit at one point. There's so much we don't know.
Wait, my understanding was in Neolithic Europe that women were traded between villages to start families to minimize inbreeding? DNApedigrees have shown that. That would be disruptive to your “network,” no? I may be mistaken
