~ ADHD and just very neurodivergent. This thread is definitely me seeking anecdotal evidence to try and determine if I feel like I have enough data to feel confident in exploring Autism as a diagnosis. :) But I definitely agree with you and hear you!

Totally. I figured those were their words, but felt like it was worth flagging. There are a TON of types of less-discussed forms of ND, too (plus, a LOT of ADHD resembles autism & vice versa, esp. for AFAB folks). If you can, your best bet is to talk to a specialist.

I think a lot of mis-/disinfo has circulated in the last few years and, while it has helped a TON of people who otherwise wouldn’t have to get the right dx, others have gotten the *wrong* care because of it.

A psychiatrist who specializes in these conditions can do a full observational & interview eval, but also will make sure there isn’t any other medical reason for your symptoms. (Ex. sensory sensitivity can be caused by neurological changes, endocrine issues can cause meltdowns, etc.)

And they can make sure that you are looking at the correct type of ND for your symptoms and also refer you to resources and/or clinicians best suited to help, whether it’s talk therapy, medication, other types of therapy, etc.

Definitely a great suggestion, thank you! I think my therapist really mostly wanted to plant a nugget of, "hey the way that you're confused with the world is probably more than just ADHD" and probably wants me to explore what the spectrum looks like to see if it fits.
