I try to avoid traveling to autoritarian states whenever possible. However, it bugs me that this one is less than 100km from where I live and speaks freely about annexation.
Best recommendation: Take a burner, or no phone at all. If you need a computer, take an empty one, with just basic OS, and use a VPN to get anything you need afterwards, or better: Use some remote device to work on, which wouldn't leave any local data traces.
There are mixed messages floating around. If you are pulled into secondary and they demand to see your phone, using passcode(need warrant to access) and not facial/fingerprint, is not true. You’re in no man’s land, do what they want. As a Canadian just say you’re going to turn around and go back.

What do you do if the border crosses you ?
Certain articles should be free of the paywall, though.
This should be one of ‘em.
But, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” is so 2017, I guess.
