The CSB also has done an incredible job communicating their findings to the public in the form of their YouTube channel, https://www.youtube.com/@USCSB.

CSB video intros get me unreasonably hyped about Murica and chemical safety. One of them literally has an eagle rebuild an oil refinery, then perch atop an American flag. They're a national treasure that we need to protect at all costs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFhkzK7jkKg
Like the NTSB, I often wish the CSB had more teeth. 😑 They do a great job with their public communication it would be a massive loss to have them (further) defunded.
I'm gonna guess a big company just had a really damaging spill and it was looking like they were gonna get fined bigtime.. A few mil to the Don and the investigators sleep with the fishes...
The CSB isn't an enforcement body though, and can't levy fines or punitive action. It's purely there to conduct investigations of incidents' root-cause and publish recommendations for avoiding them in the future. Trump proposed this before in 2019 and Congress kept the CSB alive
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that since their remit was to "investigate", that in a court action brought by victims, having an official body there who's done an independent inspection and found negligence , that'd be a threat.... Always follow the money, I say.

January 15th 2020: Trump praises a large chemical company and its CEO by name.
July 14th 2023: D0w has a large explosion, which is still under investigation by the CSB today.
There are dozens more like this, could be any one of them.
