Honestly the books are hard to put down & it's a shame she didn't value the business anymore so she poisoned it for everyone. 🤷♂️ it's like she's mad at everything and is abusing a small group for comfort.
And women who just want to use the bathroom in peace without weirdos photographing them.
(Yes, she actually suggested that people take photos inside the public washrooms in case someone might be trans. Her cheese has slid right off the cracker)
If only we could. But this isn't a ban. As I said in another reply, no bookstore can order every book in print. So they decide which ones to order and not to order. For a variety of reasons. It's their normal course of business.
"B-But I thought banning books was bad!"
JKR can stop being a bigot any day she likes and those books could go right back on the shelves
If instead her books were removed because they were "seditious", that's bad, that's harmful censorship, and it's unhealthy in any nation that purports to be "free"
I don't think people are having them removed from library shelves. It's a matter of her now directing her profits from them (and the upcoming TV show)to finance anti-trans "work."
It's a matter of choosing not to help her finance that.
I honestly don't care about how it's framed, I'll be a hypocrite, The Enemy never cares about that.
Burn all her merch, Harry Potter sucked before JKR became a crusader for fascists.
Bookbans *are* bad, regardless of any if the above. This book isn't banned. A store isn't stocking it anymore. It's not being removed from existing libraries, anybody who still wants it can read it.
That is the other slice of this particular pie, yes: This *isn't* a ban, it's the "invisible hand of the free market" deciding actually being associated with bigotry and enabling it financially even at your own benefit isn't economically viable.
Why do these people always cry "censorship" once someone decides not to give them money while at the same time actively campaigning to make certain texts illegal?
Ironically, churches recommended her books be banned for witchcraft and other demonic themes. I wouldn't let my daughter read them. In good Christian fashion I told a woman at a bookstore that she shouldn't buy them for her grandchildren. She told me to go to hell. I'd tell me to go to hell too.
took quite a while for that... almost like they waited until her books didn't sell all that well anymore... what has it been? two years since she came out as a hateful asshole? maybe more...
i honestly don't think she wrote those books. they include elements conflicting with her opinions like the headmaster being gay or a potion that literally transforms you into the opposite gender as some did in those books. hell the main evil villains were all about pure blood this and that
The Goblins are antisemitic stereotypes, "slaves like to be slaves actually, and if you fight for their freedom you're stupid", "Wizards are better people than non-wizards", "Fat people are shit", several racist names....
is it liar? because the story that she wrote it while pregnant and homeless just seems too made up as part of the marketing. has anyone ever talked about seeing her writing it at the library or being seen around as homeless at all?
while letting her toil in obscurity is always good, the bookstore stated on socmed that as she's said these sales will be used to fund her anti-trans efforts, the way they have chosen to fight back is by not selling her books at all.
I don't think there's anything to sue about. There is not a single bookstore that can carry every single book that is in print. So all bookstores pick and choose what to sell. That's how bookstores act in the normal course of business.
I don't know anything about the owners specifically, but you can be in a straight presenting relationship and still be queer (bi/pan, trans, non-binary, etc.) 🌈✨️

It's the liberal centrism.
The desperate cloying clinging to the status quo, for no good reason at all.
