Ehlers gets off a plane a scores the tying goal, ultimately helping Denmark advance to the playoffs (vs Canada) in the IIHF World’s. How can you not re-sign this beauty?

I think the Jets might like to try to re-allocate Ehlers' cap space to a 2C or top pair RHD, but how could they acquire one? It would likely take trading lots of future assets. I could see them try that. But I think it's more likely that reluctance to sign is on Ehlers' side. Time will tell.
I actually think they might be better trading Vilardi for a 2C. Easier to find a winger in free agency or via trade, and Jets' prospect pool is strongest on the wing (Lambert, Chibrikov, Yager? Barlow, He).
His games played and production (total goals and assists) are similar to Svechnikov (Carolina), with less average ice time per game. Svechnikov is making about 8.8% of the team cap this season. That translates to about 8.3M starting next season. Seems fair.
Just listened to Namestnikov's interview. Said he had a long chat with him at the team dinner and would love to have him stay "but" it's the business side of the game and out of his control. Same as Hellebuyck. Not a lot of optimism in their answers and tones, Buti could be reading into it too much
If it’s the “business side” I really don’t understand how the Jets can’t make it happen. It’s only if Ehlers wants to leave or go to the highest bidder even if it’s Chicago that it becomes a problem.
It will be very interesting to see how this contract situation with Ehlers plays out. I think he'd be a huge loss to the Jets, but I'm not convinced that the Jets' management and coaches have the same opinion as to his value.

What's the price Winnipeg should pay?
We have nobody internally that can replace him. UFA’s of his caliber won’t sign here. Anybody with a NTC isn’t waiving for us.
He’s also just really good at hockey and why would you not want that?
