A package of sounds that a game uses in pretty much any generation is not a soundfont. calling SNES music instrument packs soundfonts is acceptable though imho. genesis though? no. no.

After working with a DX7 for decades I call it "patches" or sound "banks". Anything wavetable though I call it "wave sets", only time I ever used "soundfont" was on anything EMU based like SB Live, Audigy, or soft-synths that actually take soundfont files.
