If I want to be hyper specific, “the conditions that make it more or less likely to happen”. Or “might happen”. This I think is one of the key broken bits…designers think it is deterministic when it is probabilistic.
I feel like debating semantics, job titles, and discipline names is distraction and waste of time. It doesn't help me do better work, and like you said, doesn't help anyone understand what I do.
On my last project, everything was HCD to the client, so that's what my team called it. On my current project, it's CX. The terms didn't impact the work we did.
Here begins the art of the photoplay. That one nervous hand which feverishly grasps the deadly weapon can suddenly for the space of a breath or two become enlarged and be alone visible on the screen, while everything else has really faded into darkness.
The act of attention which goes on in our mind has remodeled the surrounding itself. The detail which is being watched has suddenly become the whole content of the performance, and everything which our mind wants to disregard has been suddenly banished from our sight and has disappeared.

Mainly, why are we still doing this playing with titles thing?
It has never resulted in a better understanding from anyone about what we actually do because we can't even agree amongst ourselves.
