I’ve tried one of the Persona games but I just can’t do turn based combat. I used to love it when I was younger but I just can’t get into it anymore. Interested to get your take on this, though.
It takes a bit to get going, but around the August timeframe it gets really good. (Sort of like most Persona games where they don’t really get going until Summer months)
There's something about taking the Persona one day at a time formula, but instead of choosing whether or not you study after school or hang out with a friend, you're allocating days to travel to various dungeons and quest locations. It works so well.
As a big Persona fan, what you described is exactly what hooked me so quickly on Metaphor. I also felt like you were given enough time to both do your dungeons and expand on those social relationships.
I really struggled to stick with Persona 5, but I'm 55+ hours into this and it's just incredible. And I'm someone that gets anxiety playing games like this that put you on a "timer".
I'm going to try it eventually. I'm somewhat picky when it comes to JRPGs and I've never cared for their previous stuff but the trailers for it had my attention already, and the rave reviews are hard to put aside.
I am roughly 20 hours in, and as my first Atlus experience, I really like it, I've been juggling between it and Dragon Age the last few weeks when I haven't been playing Diablo 4.
I love what I've played but I hit a point about 30 hours in where I just can't make myself pick it up and I don't know why. The game is great! Stupid ADHD brain lol.
