Sounds like he’s got a bit more grounding in the real world - and is happy to fix the blame in its rightful place - rather than just saying “well we should all have peace”, with no plan to make it happen.
Fun fact, there's a neighborhood in Chicago called Ukrainian Village. Of course also many people of Eastern European descent, Poles, Latvians, Lithuanians, Estonians, etc.
And denies women access to reproductive health care, LGBTQ+ citizens the right to marry, and prevents women from being employed in positions equal to men in his corporations.
I remember when Pope John Paul II spoke out about issues in Poland, his home land, and things started to change. I am hoping Pope Leo speaks out as Pope on our current disaster in the US.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics. Perhaps a bachelor's degree in evolutionary biology would have been too much. 😬 But you have to have a clever head to get this title for maths.
And does he support Palestine as a nation, and excoriate the Israeli genocide? Does he now support the rights of LGBTQ people, as much as he can, 13 years after denouncing them?
Point of order on the captions there: the Pope said there WERE crimes against humanity, not that there were no crimes unlike what those captions said. Fuckin' AI.
He argued Russia’s claimed basis for their actions were unfounded, meaning Ukraine was not committing the humanitarian crimes Russia used to justify war.
He said no humanitarian crimes were found BY Ukraine, after saying it was an imperialist war waged by Russia? That’s what I understood…I didn’t claim to quote him.
I actually didn't pay attention to the subtitles when I listened to it the first time. I went back to check on them after I saw your comment that didn't describe what he had said in Spanish.
I'm glad to help.
BTW as any American realized yet that the Pope is a career lawyer?
Not really. While his Spanish is not completely fluent, he clearly says "ya está comprobado que se están cometiendo crímenes contra la Humanidad en Ucrania", i.e. "it's already proven that crimes against humanity are being committed" (by the Russian invaders, I infer).
They add the word "attorney" after "power" which was not used in the speech and makes no sense.
They also skipped the word invasion that was said but you didn't get it in the subtitles.
He actually said:
"there are crimes"
(the "no" is a typo).
Separately, I'll say, so far, this pope is clearly speaking against Russia, while Francis was always ambiguous, never clear which side he was on. HOWEVER, how old is this recording? Is he a Pope here or just a priest?
I might be wrong, but I always think of MAGA as predominantly evangelicals, and Christians who believe in predestination (which is something I can never get my head around).
Catholics don’t believe in that - they believe in good works and also don’t think scripture is the only source of authority.
The Vatican Secretary of State has reportedly unveiled a letter signed by Pope Francis, clarifying that convicted Cardinal Angelo Becciu cannot attend the upcoming conclave.
In December 2023, the cardinal was convicted of financial crimes in a Vatican City courtroom, and given a sentence of five years and six months, a fine of 8,000 euros (around $8,700), and perpetual disqualification from holding public office.
What we know for sure is that these guys waffle a lot, by design. They flip like burgers. We saw Francis doing the same thing with Ukraine 🇺🇦, at times siding carefully with then to siding later with Russia 🇷🇺.
I don't trust a damn thing they say. Based on evidence.
American Christians are big on "translating" texts to suit their personal biases (it's how a biblical prohibition on pedophilia somehow became the prohibition on t3y ghey that modern American Christian churches so adore), so I wouldn't bet against a "translator" popping up somewhere.
(A) The Pope doesn't do translations; at most, he puts his imprimatur on them.
(B) Catholics don't have to obey the Pope. They do have to accept his statements on faith and theology as canonically true when he speaks ex cathedra on the topic (and that's a whole formal process).
And even in the religious orders, there is not a requirement to agree with the Pope on those rare occasions when he does that (however, openly disagreeing with the Pope's infallible statements on faith and theology will get you defrocked).
I imagine most Catholics understand it that the Pope sets the tone for what is permissiable.
The ones I am thinking of are recent converts in usa (mostly maga y w men) who did it for the “vibes” and now argue the Pope is “just a man” and has “nothing to do with God”
That’s pretty ethnocentric, given that the U.S. has no where near the majority of Catholics in the world. On a global basis, US Catholics are a minority. Italian is the official language of the Vatican because it’s the ROMAN Catholic Church.

Cuz that guy needs Jesus, either in this world or the next, but soon.
💙
Was this recorded when he was a cardinal?
If he dies unexpectedly in the near future
Hear me
Russian Murderers are everywhere
The last one’s Russophillia was a little too obvious.
It's also the largest mafia organisation on earth.
Largest real estate owner in Russia as well.

It's great to have the pope on the side of humanity in such a clear way 👏
It's refreshing to have some normalcy for a change
I'm glad to help.

Many, many mistakes in subtitles.
They add the word "attorney" after "power" which was not used in the speech and makes no sense.

Because I'm trying to Google another source for these words and can't find anything.
One doesn't have to be a pope to condemn Putin or call out his war on Ukraine as evil. A simple understanding of right & wrong will do. 🕊️

Bold Blessings with and for them.

That trump pope pic? Mask is slipping

Grew up Roman Catholic and you’re right. Faith alone dont cut it in Catholic tradition.
56% of Catholics voted trump, hard to feel bad for them.
trump posting as pope is literal blasphemy
he will lose his catholic base

25 of those countries never had a Cardinal before... that could become Pope.
In Vatican politics ... It was the last time that the European Cardinals could decide themselves of the Pope.
