It’s all just so fucking boring and lazy. Give me the magic, the romance, the idealism, the uncertainty, the risk, the alchemy of creating something beautiful with your own damn hands.
business school graduates are destroying nearly every industry. boeing used to be run by engineers, film and game studios used to be run by creatives, but now everything is run by Gary from accounts. Fuck you Gary!
If you don’t think like this you’re not making money on mobile.
The app stores won’t show people your game unless you’re spending millions in advertising - and guess who has the biggest ad budget?
Yup. Agree. I make just enough to pay my monthlies which are already extremely low. I cannot compete with the ad spend of the big studios. I also cannot afford to hire ASO people. I’m super grateful for the support we do get but I wish I wouldn’t have to struggle every month. Wearing all the hats is
And THIS is why it’s so hard for me to make a living just designing mobile games. I cannot compete with these guys unless I put super predatory functions into the game. I need to make a living. I’m disabled, can’t work a full time gig without getting fired because I need time off
For medical issues. I hate what has happened to gaming. Especially mobile. So I’ll just design my little good looking classics and take the little income I make but shit like this halts any innovation and creativity.
I love that he named stuff that people routinely hate on the gameplay of because of how money grubby it is and specifically succeed because of either artwork or whale players
These are not the thoughts of a cohesive, creative artist who knows what they're doin'.
These are the thoughts of an incohesive, creatively *bankrupt* jackass who *thinks* they know what they're doin'.
They need to be smacked in the face with the Dunning-Kruger effect.
Luke, this is a business model. It is the thing that actually drives games being made. Even non-phone ones. Yes, it sucks.
Sure, you might have fond memories of beating up burly guys in 2 Crude Dudes but those memories were to get you to buy the cartridges after your rental period was over.
I feel like putting games on phones was a mistake. There was like a 3 year period where mobile games actually felt like games and now they're all just thinly veiled casinos and it seems like such a waste.
And they're using what they learnt and brought it to PC and console gaming.
"Free to play games"...
And Call of Duty, a free to play game at heart with all the insane amounts of monetisation but still charging full price anyway.

Ok, guy.

Your best bet is being successful on another platform first then porting to mobile, like Balatro.
